Hello Ladies and Congrats on making it to the 2nd trimester!!! -- I would like to ask a question about depression and medications. I have suffered depression for several years, but have managed to stop taking Zoloft while TTC and during my 1st trimester. I was wondering if anyone has ever (or currrently) taken Zoloft in pregnancy. My preference is to take nothing till my pregnancy is over, but I feel the time has come to discuss with my Dr about my options. Please share your experiences with me and medications that you have safely taken. Thank you!

twinmom- that's wonderful that you have been able to go without your meds for your baby!!! It must be very hard. When I was ttc, I was told that the SSRI's were preg cla__s C which was not safe during pregnancy mostly due to heart problems in the fetus. Wellbutrin is said to be safe. I can't remember the cla__s on that one. Hopefully you will not need to go back on the meds. I stopped when ttc and thankfully, have not taken anything in about 3 years. Maybe just having the security of having something if you need it may be enough, good luck.

Thank you for your reply. I have heard of Wellbutrin but have never taken it. Hopefully I can find a way to manage without meds, but just like to know all my options and others experiences. That is awesome you have managed to stay off your meds! Congrats!

Thanks for the congrats, don't get me wrong those first few months were hell and one of the most difficult things to do, but it was worth it. Take it day by day and each day you make it through without, all the better. I really think maybe just having the security of having something you can take if you need may be enough to get you through. Good luck!

Last summer there was a release of info that said after numerous studies that many SSRIs are safe during pregnancy and if needed are far better for the mother to take then suffer anxiety and depression in pregnancy. Prozac has been studied for a long time. Paxil is the one that was related to heart defects. Read the studies on the internet and if you need them discuss it with your doctor. Good luck!
