For my son, i did a space theme. the nursery bedding was blue with stars and it had bears dressed like astronauts. It is great as he is 5 and i didn't have to change his room. it is now star wars.

You don't have to have a theme at all! My nursery doesn't. I figure that my bedroom doesn't have a "theme" so why should a baby's? You may also look into a solid or neutral bedding and add color and decoration to the room with what you hang on the walls, rugs, etc. I have alot of black furniture in my house also.
Have fun! :)

Try looking at the Pottery Barn Kids site, they have great theme rooms - fire engines, airplanes, bugs. etc. Gives you gret ideas.

JenniferB: I'm TOTALLY hooked on Glenna Jean - thank you! I love her Mod Squad pattern. I've been struggling so much for nursery ideas since we're not finding out what we're having. THANKS!

Your welcome. That is a nice one. I like the shade of blue in it. My son's nursery was Snoopy so I wasn't very modern. lol

Ok have you ever heard of Wendy Bellissimo? Great designer for baby nursery's. She has a line at babies r us. The one I fell in love with for a boy was vintage fire truck. very nice and its not sporty at all. check it out at www.wendybellissimo.com. Also at babies r us this is one called Zanzibar its a jungle theme you can even paint a stump of a Palm Tree and get the leaves off of a artifical tree and glue them to the wall. And get a stuff animal monkey with a coconut and put on the tree. My girlfriend did it and was beautiful. She is a interior decorator. It looked great. Its a idea. Good luck .Hope that helps.

I have a Planes, Trains and Automobiles thing going on. My almost 2 year old has Cop Cars, Fire Trucks and Ambulances on his Bed Sets, and my 11 month old has Airplanes, Slug Bugs, and Monster Trucks on his bed sets. We paid $40/set at Kmart. Each had 4 pieces.

We did dragonflies in my little boy's nursery. But, a good place for modern ideas is IKEA or go to their website.

I also have a modern home and really had a hard time deciding on my baby boy's nursery. Then, I fell in love with the idea of a cowboy themed baby nursery and it has been wonderful! I think the cowboy theme is great because it has an all American appeal and it is definitely not trendy. I plan to keep a cowboy theme as my son grows, so I am fine with investing in some pieces which will last for years to come.
It can be kind of hard to find cute bedding and accessories, but the one thing every cowboy room really must have is a Rope Art made by this cool family in Texas. They make each one by hand and my son Justin's looks AWESOME above his crib. It is literally a piece of rope that some how is shaped into the child's name. Anyway, these are really special, so I wanted to at least share some of my enthusiasm for cool cowboy bedrooms and the rope art is a must have for every little cowboy and cowgirl room.
Check them out online with a google search for "Buckaroo Style"

Krista-Babies R Us has this bedding set called Star Kids or something to that nature. I think that would look really nice with the dark furniture. It's blue and white.....just a thought

I've always thought it was odd that people get nursery things that "match" the rest of their house, rather than just things that would be good for a baby. It's a nursery, not a showroom.

Hi all - well my nursery started out jungley and I have just gone from there - dont know if I am having a boy or girl so had to pick a theme that was neutral and I love the colours in the jungle stuff. So basically I have a room full of animals and colours haha - Its a bit eklectic but really cheery so I love it! Good luck with all your decorating!! I had so much fun doing mine - now I just need my baby haha.

My favorite theme for a baby boy's room is "cowboy" and I found the cutest stuff on a site called Buckaroo Style . com. You can get your baby's name made out of rope and they come big enough to hang above the crib.
