BLEEDING DURING SECOND TRIMESTER

For your own sanity Kelsey I would hold on to the belief it is just to early to see anything. Our own personal calculations can often be off count. That is how some of us get a whoops pregnancy. The baby would not even be the size of a pea at 4 weeks. Keep your chin up follow what the blood work says and remember a positive state of mind really does help you over come this situation. What ever is going to happen will happen and honestly there is little we can do but to be positive and take care of our selves. Take care and God bless Jenny

I found this site when I had a gush my 13th week. It is a great helpful for me to have many information and encouragement from here. Now is my 15th week, bleeding is not stopped yet. Dr. can’t tell the reason of bleeding, and baby’s heart beat is normal. I’m a Christian too. Even though I don’t know what will be the final ending, but I’m knowing GOD is with me all the time regardless good or bad things happens. “You take care of your heart, and GOD takes care rest of it”. This is a phase I saw in one of Dr. office three years ago when I lost my first baby in miscarriage, and it pops up so many times these days. I’m grateful to find this website, and wish all ladies good luck in this journey, and pray for you all.

hi all...... I wrote back a few weeks ago about spotting. I seen baby on ultra sound again today. My sweetie was sucking his/her thumb. I have been spotting still but not as much as before. it is like every other 2 or 3 days there it is again. My doctor thinks it is left over blood from inplantation or a small tear in the placenta. i will find out results of U/S tomorrow. I hope everything is ok. All I do is pray and keep a positive att_tude. my doc says as long as you spot brown then it is old blood and not too worry too much. She does seem concerned though. She sees it is upsetting me so at least she is taking the extra time to give me the ultrasounds on a regular basis. I just keep telling myself that this baby is going to be fine and so am I. Thank you all for all the support you have given me. It sure does make you feel better that someone else has the same things going on with their bodies too. I pray for each and everyone of you!! Yes I liked the post about going to church!! I have started once again too. There is comfort to just know that this is gods baby too.

Hi. I wrote a few days ago about going to see a high risk OB since I have been bleeding for 6 weeks and had a US that showed 3 hematomas in my uterine membrane. I took the advise of a few people who were kind enough to write back and I have an appointment on March 2nd with a high risk OB. I wish it was sooner but this dr. is at my current hospital and I hate to leave. I am from Boston and there are many good hospitals here so I might look around alittle if my bleeding gets heavier. For the last few days my bleeding has turned mostly brown which makes me feel better. I haven't gone a day since Jan 3rd without bleeding or spotting but the baby has been active during every us so I'm trying to stay positive. I was also curious if anyone else has had this bleeding problem during prior pregnancies. During my first pregnancy I had spotting during the first trimester and then a gush of blood at 11 weeks which is the same as this pregnancy. The difference is that the bleeding ended in about 2 weeks in my first pregnancy and now I have a adorable little girl born 04/16/04. So when I got pregnant this time (my daughter was 6 months) I was expecting blood in the first trimester but never got any until 11 weeks when I gushed. The doctors don't know if its just a concidence or not. During my first pregnancy they never found evidence of any hematomas. I was also wondering if any of you still exercise when you are bleeding. I got out for a short walk everyday but thats about it and I would like to be more active but am scared that it will increase the bleeding. Picking up my daughter (which is about 19 pounds) does cause more bleeding so I only pick her up when necessary (I have a very supportive husband). My doctor only said to do what feels ok. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi Stephanie, I didn't bleed with my previous 2 pregnancies just this one, i was put on 90% bed rest and told not to lift my daughter (who's 2) or son (who was born 8 days after your daughter) up which was very hard, but my bleeding stopped after 3 day's and i've eased back in to exercising, i'm nearly 20 weeks now and havent bled since, your doctor is right listen to your body it'll tell you what you can do and what's to much.i'm having my 1st scan in 4 day's but i know baby's fine because i bought a doppler but i'll get to see what s_x he/she is! i wish you all the best with your pregnancy, and the same to everyone else on here.

Stephanie I would totally ease up on exercise and consult my doc before beginning anything new. Bleeding sometimes can be controlled if you take bed-rest. So please check with your ob for any exercise. Once the bleeding is in control or the hematomas are healed you can go back to your exercise routine. take care

Hi - I've had the same problem. Except it started around 6 weeks and has continued on and off through now (13w 2d). About once/week, I will bleed bright red, and then it will taper off to brown for a few days, and then back to red. Dr. seems to think it's a blood vessel and not impacting the baby. Boy, it's terrifying, though! I've been to the ER twice (8w and 11w) as the bleeding got heavier. I'm so glad that I found you ladies and that there is hope!

Steph., I had bleeding also but my bleeding was a one spot them pink mucus the next day. This happened about 3to 4 time so my doctor put me on home rest, which ment no cleaning no exercise, no pelvis activty which I found out after I spotted again that no pelvic activity ment no orgasm. Because the uterus contracts which is like labor in a way and it potential can make the bleeding start or continue. I have been on home rest now for over a month and I make sure I have no stress either. I have not bleed sence January 24th praise the lord. I started out doing nothing for a few weeks and then slowly started back in to little chorse and short short walks and If my tummy tightened then I stopped and rested. Listen to your doctor and you may want to look to a high risk doctor that will see you this week, the 2nd is a long time to wait, who knows you may only see him once or twice so the hospital doesn't really matter its the baby that matters and getting you better so you can take care of your little one.

Stephanie how are you doing? And how is everyone else?

I have no answers, sorry! But of course I have more to add. I bled at 6 wks (light period), 10 wks ER visit (pa__sed large clot). Nothing could be done at that time, I just had to wait everything out. I got extremly scared when I had blood running down my legs at 23 weeks, my husband rushed me to ER. I was in the hospital for 6 days observation. Docs had no idea what was going on. Baby sounded good, placenta was out of the way (was previously diagnosed with previa, then low lying placenta), only thing wrong was the bright red bleeding. While at hospital, I had too many large clots. Everything was alright though. At 24 wks, I was given steroid shots for baby's lung maturity. I am now 26 wks, and on bedrest. I'm allowed toilet and shower privileges only. Never realized how bored I would get. I'm currently considered high risk and seeing a great OB. He doesn't have any real answers though. He just says that about 1% of pregnancies have abnormal unexplained bleeding. Although I'm not too pleased with that answer, at least he's 10 minutes away, and if I get scared, he's there to put up with my b___t!! Just trying to stay preggo as long as possible. Next appt 2/21

Hey all, I haven't added stuff abt self for a while. I went for my reg scheduled apptment on last thurs. Only to find out that I was contractng every 3/4 min.The doc put me on terutaline and complete bed-rest. The contractions are in control so far. I am 29 weeks by the way. Would be wonderful if could go on to at least until 36 week. That's a long way, so juss keeping faith and taking slow. I celebrate each pa__sing day by checking it off on the calendar. Every ending week gets a smily or sticker. It really helps. Good luck to all...

My situation is like a lot of others described above. At the end of my 13th week I experienced light pink bleeding - enough that I saw it when I wiped but never enough to get on my panties. I called my doctor immediately and she brought me in the next day for an exam and to listen to the hearbeat - everything was normal. No spotting that day. The next day when I woke up I found that I had reddish-brown spotting but still only enough that I saw it when I wiped. The discharge seems to decrease as the day progress. This is my third day of reddish-brown spotting but there has been no cramping or anything. I am keeping my doctor apprised of the situation and taking it easy (no gym). Even though it seems like a lot of people experience similar situations and go on to have healthy babies, I am worried. So, advice I am taking from this column is: 1. Rest as much as possible. No gym or s_x until the bleeding stops. 2. Renting a doppler helps with the anxiety. 3. It is not that uncommon to have bleeding during the second trimester. 4. If my bleeding continues, I should talk to my doctor bout my concerns and think about seeing a high-risk ob/gyn. 5. If I start to feel pain or heavy bleeding, I should go in to the hospital. Is there anything else?

Millie - February 21

Andrea, You summarized it pretty well. Just one thing to add--- Bleeding red (fresh blood) is more of a concern than brown (old blood) bleeding even if you are just spotting. Good luck!

Wow, I don't feel so alone anymore. I am just over 15 weeks pregnamt and had a lot of bleeding just after my 12th week. I went to the emergency room and they told me I have Placenta Pervia. I bleed for about another 3 days and then it stoped. Then I started to get the brownish discharge and small clots just over a week ago. It has not stoped at all and the doctor tells me that there is nothing to worry about right now. I wish she had told me that the dark blood was old blood and not regualar bleeding. It would have made me feel alot better. I am still scared though. I have 2 other childern and have been told that if this becomes more of a problem that they would have to put me on bed rest. That is almost impossible for me because I found out I was pregnant right after I seperated from my husband. He is absouly no help and I don't know how I will do it on my own. Are there any other single Moms out there with the same problem? How do you take care of yourself and your other kids?
