BLEEDING DURING SECOND TRIMESTER

Hi Jenny- thanks for asking. I've been meaning to write since my appointment with the high risk ob. I am currently at 21 weeks. I went on March 4th and the dr. was very nice and went over the whole level 2 US with me and my husband. Basically he said that there are no signs of the original bleeds (which were about the size of the baby) and that I had some debris floating in my uterus which was probably the dried blood. He also said that my placenta is posterior but not next to the cervix such as it had been diagnosised earlier. I have a follow-up with the doctor on March 23rd and hopfully nothing will have changed. I also have not bleed at all for the last 7 days! I saw my regular OB today and she made the comment that my pregnancy is starting to look like a normal pregnancy and I was so happy to hear her say that. Last year when I was pregnant with my first child (born April 16th) I didin't realize how luckly I was that I only had bleeding for a week around 11 weeks. I think the longer the bleeding lasts the more pessimistic you become. I feel very lucky and thankful that my bleeding has gone away. Though I can't help but get alittle anxious everytime I have to go to the bathroom... I am also going to start going back to work more. I am allowed to work from home as much as needed (I'm a psychologist and my work environment is flexible). My doctor still doesn't want me to go back full time until more time has pa__sed without any bleeding. I hope others will have the same outcome as I have. I'm still amazed how I can bleed for over 2 months straight and then have it all go away and become a normal pregnancy. I think there is hope for all of us.

Hi everyone, Glad to hear good news from some of you.. My spotting has stopped for two days and I will be seeing my OB nd have an U/S to check how baby is doing. Altho he hasn't been able to answer why I've been spotting on and off, he has a__ssured me that so long as the spotting is brown, there is no cause for alarm. It is all dried blood. Still, it's been a trying period. Anyway, I read in Miriam Stoppard's book on pregnancy that some women have light periods throughout their pregnancy!!! And some websites mentioned friable cervix, ie one that is prone to bleeding. Ok, keep your spirits high and keep praying..God will see us through.

Hi Dawn and Angelina, have you seen the Dr or taken a test yet? I had a very light period (dark red and brown) and light cramps around the time I was supposed to have my period but just had this nagging doubt that I could be pregnant. Turned out I really was. Am 17 weeks now. Perhaps getting it tested might help. God bless.

I have not had red spotting sence january, however I do get pink mucus discharge and it scares me to death. I will be fine then when I am looking forward to doing something I will get this discharge and I feel I had better go back to bed and cry. This happened today. I have been away from school for 2 months (10 weeks) now and today the other teachers and I were putting on a lunch in for our teacher a__sistants and as I was getting ready to leave the house I had this mucus pinkish discharge. So I had to cancel :-( . Any suggestions from anyone? I want so badly to return to my teaching job but if this discharge doesn't stop by doctor is very sticked and won't release me to work. I am 23 weeks 3 days. Any suggestions would be great, God bless you all

Hi Jenny I am a teacher too! I totally understand how you feel..for the past few months, it has been this wrestle between work and rest. I would be on bedrest for a week, and when everything seemed ok, I'll be back in school, but only for a few weeks before the spotting starts, and Dr puts me on bedrest again. It was really frustrating. When I was at home, I'd be thinking of my students and wondering whether they can cope with their work, but when back in school, I'd be running to the toilet to check the colour of any discharge. The final straw came when the first day I went back to school after a period of bedrest, I started spotting again that evening. I left school crying. Anyway, I am now on a combination of medical and unpaid leave.Thankfully my colleagues had been very understanding and supportive. I am trying to look on the bright side- perhaps it is a good time to rest and seek God, and do things I otherwise won't have time to- read, think, do some craft.. Don't let it get to you too much- worrying will only make it worse ok? You are already 23 weeks, it won't be long before your beautiful baby comes along. Keep praying :)

Thank you Rachel that was nice. Ifeel a little better today, except when Ihave to go to the bathroom I worry. But I that God evertime for one more day. People would probably think I was weird if they saw me in the bathroom. Worring and Praying evertime but oh well what ever works works. Take care to all.

Rachel and Jenny, your stories hit home. I "was" a teacher. My last year's predicament with the bleeding and bed-rest and ultimate miscarriage all led to me quitting the job. You guys should be thankful that you doc is giving you the help you need to take off from work. Mine dinn think I needed bed-rest. I asked for a without-pay leave from my administrators. They were not ready to give it for such a long period. I left the job as my having a family was more important to me. I am also very thankful to my husband in supporting me. I am glad things are working for you though. I hope you both (and rest of us all) have happy and healthy babies at the end.ou are able to go back to work when you are ready. Good luck!!!

I am experiencing bleeding also...it just started today. Heavy with blood clots. My stomach feels wied, but that might be anticipation. I just had a miscarriage, so this is my 5th pregnancy. It is scary to think i might be having another one..

kristy - March 19

lavada, at 13 weeks ihad heavy bleeding with lots of clots and some mild cramping. i thought for sure with all the bleeding it was a miscarriage but the next day they heard a heartbeat and when they did an ultrasound, they said the placenta was slightly pulling away from the uterus. i bled lightly for 5 wks and am now almost 25 wks and all is fine. so hold onto hope and keep believing and trusting that all is right. God bless.

Last thursday night, I started to have some discharge that was a little bit brownish, so Fri am I called the doc's office and the ob nurse said asked if I had s_x recently. I said yes, thursday morning- she told me that it was pretty common to have light spotting after intercourse; as long as its not bright red and no period like cramps, then its OK. Well that made me feel better, and then Sat am I woke up and had a lot more discharge with little clots (still brownish) when I went to the bathroom. I called the midwife, and they said to take it easy and if i wanted some rea__surance, they could come to my house later to listen to baby's heartbeat with the doppler stethescope. They told me that usually this type of thing isn't cause for much alarm, but with my history- one miscarriage and one molar pregnancy- it would be better to make sure to take it easy. I had to scramble to get someone to work for me Sat. am and then rested all day till the midwife came by to check the baby. Thank goodness, there was a nice strong heartbeat! Sunday marked 15 weeks, and the bleeding has lessened, but its still barely there-wish it would just go away. The doc said that sometimes the placenta gets a small tear where it attaches to the uterus as it is growing so much at this time, and can cause the bleeding. I guess I'll be taking it easy and waiting to see if it stops. I'm sure that the baby is strong and healthy- I just keep thinking positive and taking good care of myself.

Hi Sylvia, I to am on my last week of my 1st Tri. and am experiencing some brownish spotting that started this past Sunday morning. i freaked out b/c I miscarried last June, that started out with light brownish spotting for a few days then turned red then led to MC. I called my on call nurse and she said that if there is no cramping involved and if it stays light I should not worry. then She asked me if I recently had s_x and I did the morning before. She then said that is a good possibility of the light spotting. Last week we had our exam with our Dr and also heard the heartbeat which was at 170 bpm. he said everything looked great. I have been resting and staying in bed. If you have been monitoring your spotting and it has not increased and no cramping my nurse said just rest. but I made an apoointment to visit for another scan for tomorrow a.m. to give me re-a__surance. I would do the same if you have not already. To have that peace of mind will make you feel much better. I know since Sunday morning I have been beating myself up. Stay strong and as my wonderful husband has been preaching to me is to Stay Positive.

Stacy - March 22

Hello There. I am experiencing similar symptoms as you all. I am 10 weeks pregnant and it is my first. Last Friday, I went to the restroom and lots of bright red blood with clots was in the toilet. I freaked out and thought for sure it was my baby in the toilet. Same size as it is right now. Hysterical, I called my doctor and got right in and they heard a healthy heartbeat and everything look just fine. The doctor said it sometimes this happens with no explaination and everything could be just fine. I still worry everytime I go to the bathroom or wake up. The bleeding started to slow down on Sunday, which was rea__suring, however, Monday morning, it was alot of bleeding with more cramping. Freaked me out again but me doctor said it is okay. So, everyone out there keep your head up and just play it safe and ask your doctor. Good luck! I will keep you posted about what happens.

Hi Ladies, I'm 13 weeks pg and today I had a little brown spotting. I'm going in for a u/s tomorrow to make sure everything is O.K. Wish me luck. Anyone else have this?

jenny - March 23

Hi everyone. I have been thinking latley that I am one on the luck ones I had my share of bleeding and discharge of Brown and pink. I went 35 + days with nothing and then it started again slowly, first pink discharge then Monday night I had bright red bleeding worse then ever in the past. I freaked out but I waited to call the dr. Until the morning I was told to go into the dr. and when I was dressing to go i had more Bright red bleeding. I went to the dr. Ofiice and they sent me to the Hospital . The on call Dr. there monitored me all day I had an ultra sound and everyother test - blood and urine tests. My little girl is fine but I still have no answers. Story of my pregnancy - go home and wait. Thank God I am 24 weeks 5 days or I would be having the hopeless feelings I had at 10 weeks when this all started. The dr. say after 24 weeks there is a 50 % chance of survival - but the baby will have many life long complications but after 28 weeks the chances of survival are almost a 100% is what I was told.. I guess i will keep my legs crossed for 3 1/2 weeks, even longer if I make that goal. Good luck to you all and God Bless. Rest up so you all can have a nice Easter.
