Anytime there is bleeding before 20 or 24 weeks they call it a threatened miscarriage regardless of how much or how little bleeding there is. I am suprised though in both your wife's and Catherine's situation that an ultrasound wasn't done immediately.

Sorry, I ended too soon. Cramping isn't good and if you don't think you are getting the care you should at the er or with your obgyn, I would seek a second opinion. I know I went to the ER practically gushing blood at 14 weeks and they waited so long to see me that it stopped and I said forget it and went home and waited to see my doctor the next day. Everything was fine. The term threatened miscarriage is scary though. It was on all my paper work until I was past thirty weeks. Being tired is normal, I was tired all the time! I hope all goes well for you. I will keep you in my prayers.

Sorry to say, it was a missed miscarriage. The result says the baby died last week when I was first spotting. The reason that I was not offered an ultrasound earlier, was because I wouldn't go to the dr before Thurs. I know, had I gone in earlier, they would have given me an ultrasound. I just wasn't ready to hear that I was losing another baby yet...

Katy, it could just be implantation bleeding. It happens around 6/7 weeks. How far are you in your pg?

I had some light bleeding towards the end of my 1st tri. and my doctor said its a blood clot that usually occur at the edge of the placenta (nothing to worry) it took me almost 3 wks to go back to my normal discharge. It freaked me out bcoz this is my 1st pregnancy and I really want this baby so bad.......(we've been trying for 3 yrs now) So....Im glad everything came back Ok. I am now 24-25 wks pg. due May 19th w/ a baby girl.

Congratulations to you Tess.. Do let us know when your baby arrives. Nicola, what did your ob say about the bleeding? Like my previous response to Katy, I think it may be implantation bleeding. Which does occur around 5/6 weeks. This is the time where the embyo implants itself on the uterine wall. But do keep in touch with your OB. Hope it works out for you.

Tess, I know you are so excitied!! I know what it's like to try so hard (I had my little boy at age 46!) Nicola, like Tess mentioned sometime there are clots at the edge of the placenta that aren't anything and like Millie said it could be implantation. My father in law is a retired obgyn and when I started bleeding he said if you think about the number of maternal blood vessels that have to enlarge to feed the placenta, it's not suprising to have some bleeding. It is upsetting to the Mom but do everything your doc tells you and believe in the miracle that is happening in your body! Take care of yourself.

Nicola,
I know it's rude for me to tell you this but I didn't have the first bit of morning sickness! Now, that I have that bragging out of the way....my niece was so sick for her entire pregnancy she couldn't get out of bed until the doc prescribed zofran. It worked wonders. Originally it was used for nausea with chemotherapy patients but I've heard of more and more pregnant women using it. Ask your doctor about it.
