Hi, It is Tina again. I was just wondering about you other girls with the hematoma, and brown spotting. Did your Dr. give you a lot of restrictions?? Thanks

HI Tina,
I was told no s_x, bedrest, and don't pick up anything heavier than a gallon of milk.

Since I wrote over the weekend about a very large bleed (with clots) that I had on Friday - the bleeding has subsided. I have been on total bedrest. It's now Wednesday and when I pee there is not any blood (occasionally a small amount of blood) although when I wipe there is what looks to be very dark red old blood. Can anyone tell me if this is a good sign? Would it indicate that the bleed is subsiding and re-absorbing itself?
We go for a sonogram tomorrow AM and I am concerned that it will disrupt the healing that seems to be taking place.
Any thoughts?
Thanks - Liz

Dear Sylvia. I have been spotting since the beginning of my pregnancy. I currently almost into my third month and last night I had the scare of my life. I started bleeding like you would not believe and I thought for sure I was losing my pregnancy. That said, it turns out I have a retrocorionic hematoma behind my palcenta- fancy word for blood blister (sort of). It's causing bleeding into my uterus and the baby was FINE-thank GoD! I want you to know that my husband is currently going thru Physician's a__sistant school and asked his perceptor during his ob/gyn rotation about this spotting. Turns out about 20% of pregnant women will experience some form of bleeding and if you've had an ultrasound showing a healthy baby and a healthy heartbeat, your chances of having a healthy pregnancy are about 90%. That said, remember it's never black and white but I think you are going to be fine and y our baby is going to be even better :) I wish you all the best of luck and please keep me in your thoughts as well!
Happy Pregnancy and stay optimistic...
All my love!

after worring myself sick and finding that im not the only one going through this has helped. i started a heavy bleed 2 days into my second trimester pa__sing quite a large amount one night. i was sent to the hospital right away where i had a scan and they told me that baby was fine and my cervix was closed. its 2 weeks later and the bleeding is still continuing iv been for 2 other check ups where the drs have just listened to the babys heart beat and everything seems ok. They cant tell me what it might be they said the placenta was in the right place and everything is still closed. where does this blood come from? well thay cant tell me that either. best of luck to everyone here i know how scary and frightening this is.

I had a real scare at 15 weeks in my pregnancy with alot of bright red blood, many uterine contractions and a positive amniotic fluid test when admitted to emerg at the hospital. I thought I was going to lose my baby and the fear of miscarriage was imminent. At the hospital however, they detected a heartbeat to my surprise and later looked on ultrasound to find a beautiful baby developing with a moderate sized subchorionic hematoma due to implantation bleed. (7x2x1cm.) I was discharged still bleeding, still with uterine contractions that only increased my stress level. After 2 weeks of bed rest (I have a 4 year old, 3 year old and an active 18 month old boy), and 2 more scares in emerg. with bright red blood, I found out about progesterone supplements from a doctor at the Marguerite Bourgeoys Family center (NaPro Technology). I took progesterone because my levels were apparently too low (below range 1). I also researched and discovered that because the amniotic fluid test was blood+urine, it was a false positive, so no premature rupture of membranes. I resumed activity slowly and I bled for about 9 weeks with brown old blood. The hematoma first grew in size to 50 cm3 and then reabsorbed. Progesterone levels were monitorred every 2 weeks with a blood test, and I was eventually taken off it completely as levels returned to normal and the pregnancy continued without incident. I am now 33 weeks pregnant and blessed that I had a good doctor that monitorred my progesterone levels throughout this pregnancy. I was off bedrest after 3 weeks and was able to continue being a mother to my children. Thank God it has all gone okay so far but I hope my story will be some form of rea__surance for those who may be experiencing the same type of scare at 14-15 weeks. I had progesterone injections and oral supplements, and from all the research, the benefits seem to outweigh the possible side effects. There is mixed sentiment about the use of progesterone use in pregnancy, although routinely used in first trimester for invitro fertilization. To help you keep a pregnancy, there is no money in it for pharmaceutical companies to produce it, and it is rather difficult to come by here in Ontario. I was blessed to have a doctor who cared to check my levels, and refer me for this treatment, as my uterine contractions were very difficult to manage during the scares.

Hi to everyone, my name is Marta,I have been reading almost all the entries from 2005 up till now and I was so glad to see that many all the difficult pregnancies ended up well. This is my first pregnancy. I started bleeding at 7 weeks, I was diagnosed with a subchorionic hemorrhage. It was one day of bleeding and like three weeks of brownish spotting, then everything was perfect until my 14th week, when I suddenly bleeded for a couple of days and then it stopped, although I am aware it can reoccur because I have been diagnosed with low lying placenta and I am waiting to see what happens (week 15) I have been told to take it very easy and they will keep on monitoring that placenta. Meanwhile, I thought It would be a good idea to keep myself posted here to share worries or good news. Someone else out there...?

Hi Masublanco, I had the sub chorionic hemmorage also in the beginning of my pregnancy. I had the brown spotting on and off for about 2 1/2 months.I am now almost 26weeks and everything is going good. I don't know that much about the low lying placenta though. I would just be sure to folllow your dr. advice. I know it is hard going through these things, you always feel like your the only one or nobody really knows how you are feeling. I'll pray for you and your baby, it really helps! Tina

I've had bleeding 4 times so far (15weeks) the last one being a few days ago, but i bled for about 30seconds(flood) and then nothing... I have a subcrohinic bleed tho and my doc said to expect more blood. Scary seeing blood, even if its brown. Dont worry tho, the doc told me the blood is from you, not the baby.

Thanks Tina, I am glad that your episode is past and your pregnacy developed normally afterwards. That is what I expected from mine but oh well... I don't want to complain because my baby is fine. Thanks again. Kyra, I know it is scary to see blood, but honestly I got used to the brownish type, as long as it is old it doesn't bother me that much because it is not a sign of a new hemorrahge. Keep yourself posted. Marta

Hi! I've been meaning to write this for some time now. I am a mother to newly born twin girls. I had bleeding from 7 weeks to 16 weeks. The color at various times was pink, red, brown, or even black. They never found a cause. This website forum (and lots of prayer) really kept me optimistic during that time. I am posting so that others can know that bleeding doesn't necessarily mean you will lose your baby. Stay positive, keep in close contact with your doctor, and keep the faith!

Our 2nd baby, a healthy, 8 lbs, 4 oz, and 19.5 inches baby girl--born today at 3:22 am after only 5 hours of labor with no meds, no epidural, no pitocin, etc. Although I went with natural intentions, really It was too fast for anything if I wanted it! Wish everybody lots of luck with their births! Good luck Tina!!!
