Is it normal to cramp like your getting your period, and have lower back pain in the second trimester? I will be starting week 17.

Hi beth, I am in my 16 week and I don't get the bad cramps, but I get really bad lower back pains. So you're not alone. Is this your first baby??? I go to the doctor Monday and I will ask her for my own and let you know what she has to say because I am wondering the same question. Possible it's the muscles streching and stuff moving around that is putting pressure on everything!! I'll write back soon. (this is my first pregancy)

I'm 16 weeks and am dealing with the same thing. Dr said it's either a pinched nerve or a strained back. He told me to get the harness for support.

Thanks for your input guys! I am now in my 18th week, and not feeling the cramping. The lower back pain is not as bad. I guess it comes and goes. Yes, this is my first baby. So I'm sure you can understand my concern.

It is important to mention your concerns to your doctor. I had cramping and lower back pain that felt like pressure--it turned out to be a kidney infection. Like you mentioned, it came and went, I had no idea. But it is likely that you are just having "growing pains". Mention it to your doc. though because treatment for any problems now may save you a lot of pain and heartache later.
