Fetal Movement Slower At 26 Weeks

I'm 26 week pregnant this Wed Feb 23rd and yesterday I noticed that my baby hardly moved at all. I tried to wake him by gently jiggling my stomach but he seemed sound asleep. This is unsual for me because since I felt his first movements at 18 weeks, he has moved at least 5 times per minute and used my bladder as a trampoline. But as of yesterday, he moved maybe 4 times the whole day and only twice during the night. Is this normal?

I am 26 weeks with my second baby and this one is even more of a kicker than the last one!! But with my first baby I didn't feel her move for a long period one day - probably over 12 hours from what I remember anyway, the hospital told me to drink a pint of very ice cold water (cold as I could stand) and this usually wakes them up and makes them move a bit when you're worried... it worked!!!

I too will be 23 weeks this Saturday Feb 26. I am having a baby boy and it seems as though his movement lately has really slowed down, This is my first and it makes me so nervous. At my last OB appt the heartbeat was in the 150 which is good.

I'm 26 weeks, too, and the movement seems to have decreased. Dr says drink more water, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I still feel it about 2-3 times throughout the day, but not as much as I used to...

I'm 27 weeks along and for the last three days I have noticed that my little girl went from kicking me like crazy and doing backflips to small movements. Also she seems to be staying in the same position for an entire day. I am thankful to know that other Moms are experiencing the same decreased movement. I have a Dr. appt on March 2nd. I will let you all know what he thinks.

I am 28wks and actually went to labor an delivery today for very little fetal movment this is my first but she normally is all over the place it really scared me but doctors said she was fine and the heartbeat was strong fom the sound of it, less fetal movement tends to be normal as u get farther along. good luck to all of you!!!

I was told in Lamaze cla__s that movement becomes like this because the baby is not small like it used to be where as he/she could freely move the amrs and legs. Instead he/she is kind of snug and bundled into a curl up position waiting to be born!

I'm at 25 weeks and I have noticed that the pattern of movement has changed from earlier - back around week 14-20 it was like it was wiggling and vibrating all the time. Now it seems to have more distinct types of movement - alternating between "up" periods when it kicks harder (but less frequently than before) and it also has its "down" moments when there's no movement at all. I have read that between weeks 12-22 is the critical phase for fetal brain and nervous system development, and sometime around weeks 20-25 the baby develops a lot more of its nervous system. This results in the baby's movements going from a constant spazzy type of thing to being a lot more coordinated (obvious kicks and punches). I also think that sometime in the mid-term of the pregnancy it goes from moving all the time to having enough of a nervous system to have discrete periods of sleep and wakefulness. My baby seems to sleep a LOT now, whereas before it just kind of vibrated all the time. I think its normal that it moves to a sleep-wake cycle at this point... which would result in a lot of "down time - as dont forget newborn babies sleep a lot so I expect our babies would be sleeping a lot in utero right about now!!! I have the same experience - some days the baby goes wild when its awake and it seems to be a lot quieter for a few days. Mine was really active on Sunday night and then pretty quiet (a few kicks and thumps here and there) until last night (Tuesday). Now its all quiet again!

Dont stress yourself out, I'm also 26 weeks and I've noticed the same thing for the past 2 days, I ended up going to the hospital. Everything was fine and the nurse told me since the baby is growing so much now theres less room for it to move as much as it did before. Also, it could have been you moving around or whatever. You should try drinking something sweet and lying on your side and see if that helps any.

Well,I can see here that around week 26 seems to be significant. I am experiencing the same thing with my first child now at week 26. I know that at the beginning of the 2nd trimester, there is a slight lull in growth for a few days or so. I read that in a book and it definitely applied to me. Perhaps that is the same thing happening at the beginning of the last trimester. I have found that my son seems to have what some people have called up days and down days. In my experience, after a day or so of down days, he is very active for a few days, then normally active. It seems to me, as people grow throughout their lives, when a sudden burst of growth is about to occur, or is occurring, we tend to sleep and eat more around that time. Watch kids and teenagers - oh, and us pregnant women! Don't we have days when we are eating and sleeping more (sometimes for weeks, perhaps)? I'm not a doctor, but I play one in my head. I think the quiet days are resting for growth. Of course, I would be concerned if there were no movements at all for a day or more. But I find that on sleepy days, the movements are just less frequent or softer than the up days. What do you all think?

I'm 26 weeks pregnant too and I also started to worry because for the past 3 days, baby hasn't moved a lot. He used to be so active. I freaked out so I called the doctor and I'm going in for an ultrasound this morning. She wants to check everything is alright and that there's enough amniotic fluid around the baby. It's my first pregnancy and it is hard to know what's ok and what's not! I'll let you know the results.

I'm 28 weeks pregnant and just had my routine OB check 2 days ago. Everything was fine. My baby has been kicking a lot but not for the past 24 hours and it worries me. I still feel her kick and move but not as active as she used to. I felt relieved reading your notes.

Thank you all for your comments which have helped-I am 26 weeks pregnant and baby's movements dramatically decreased in last three days-feel a bit more hopeful that everything ok and seeing midwife this week to check.

I'm 25 weeks and have also noticed decreased movement. I used to feel more poking and kicking and now the movements seem softer and fluttery. In the past when I would eat the baby would move like crazy, now sometimes it doesn’t move at all. I always thought that when the baby grew larger and stronger that the movements would be harder and more noticeable…its seems to be the opposite. This is my first so I’m not sure what is normal but I sure feel better now that I’ve read these posts. Thanks & Good luck :)
