i am 25weeks pregnant. I went for my ultrasound at 18 weeks it came back that my baby's kidneys are a little bigger than they should be so I was sent for another ultrasound and the kidney's are still a little too big and she has a spot on her heart which are both markers for down syndrome. she is perfectly healthy otherwise and everything else measures up normally. has anyone had more than one marker and their baby was born healthy. i am worrying so much it is making me sick.

Did you have a triple marker test done?? If so what were the results of that?

I did not get any of the tests done. I will not have the amnio because it could cause still birth or preterm labor at this point.

I don't know then statisically what the chances are. The triple marker test is almost always done because it is just a few tubes of the mothers blood. Of course now you would not want to have the amnio but I cannot believe that your doctor or midwife did not do the AFP test on you around 14-16 weeks. Personally I would be asking the doctor why they didn't do that test. It checks 3 levels that help to determine the risks of downs and other birth defects. The results are a guide. I would still continue to hope for the best and keep your spirits up.

when it came time to do the test I was seeing a doctor that was filling in for mine and she asked me if I would get an amnio due to the results of the test. I said no because I did not want to miscarry and I would not get an abortion so she said there was no point in getting the tests done. I guess i just want to know if there is someone out there who has gone through something similar to me and everything has ended up ok. I will love my daughter no matter what but it scares me to think that she could have so many different health problems along with the down syndrome. I wish they wouldn't have told me anything. When my mother had her four children she never went for any ultrasounds and we all ended up fine. I go for another ultrasound in 2 months and they told me that the two markers could just clear up on their own. Having a baby is the most stressful time I have ever had in my life and to boot I am doing it alone.

Goodness, tina, I really feel for you with what your are going through. I can't imagine. Everything happens for a reason though. It has taken me a while to realize that, and even if your baby does end up being d.s., just remember that she is YOUR baby and your blessing. I wish you so much luck and let us know how everything turns out.
