Hearing Your Baby S Heartbeat

Anyone ever use a stethoscope to listen to their baby's heartbeat? I bought one yesterday but cannot hear the heart. I am 25 weeks and read somewhere that I should be able to hear it with a stethoscope this week. However, I am slightly overweight. I probably have a good 1/2 inch layer of fat over my baby bump. Maybe that's keeping me from hearing it. Or it could be baby's position. Or too early to hear with a stethoscope. I don't know but I just want to hear it! Any suggestions? Anyone try this yet?

kmoselle, when I was pregnant with my daughter (she is 13 months now) I tried to hear her heartbeat with a stethoscope all the the way until the end of the pregnancy and never heard it once. I'm a medical a__sistant so I tried to listen just to see if I could hear her, but no luck. They say it's possible to hear the heartbeat with a stethoscope, but it's not easy. That's why doctors use dopplers. You can rent a doppler online if you're wanting to hear the baby's heartbeat at home. Hope that helps! :)
