I rented a dopplar and am not sure if what I'm hearing is the heart beat. I definately hear the placenta (which the instructions say sounds like wind in the trees). However, I don't hear the sound the instructions say for the heart beat, The instructions say it sounds like a horse galloping, but the only sound I hear besides the placenta sound like "wow wow". Is that what the heart beat is supposed to sound like or am I hearing something else? Is there a web site that has what it's supposed to sound like?

it sounds like a very fast "wow wow" noise. Once you do find it you will know because it is way too fast to be anything else but the baby.

Hi Caitlin,
I had a very hard time finding mine when I rented a doppler as well! By my 11th week, I found it directly in the lower middle part of my abdomen, you can definitley notice the difference, it will be so fast you won't even be able to count and mine doesn't always sound like galloping horses, but now that I'm 21 weeks it does for sure!!!
It was just a faint very fast hearbeat! Good Luck!! It's been a blast for me!
