I'm in a huge pickle. My husband, KNOWING I DIDN"T WANT TO, got a job out west (we lived on the east coast), in the same place as his parents house who I don't get along with at all. I knew how I felt about it, and did it anyway. This wasn't because he had to get another job, his job was perfectly secure, and the job he got out west wasn't any more money. He just took it because HIS MOTHER wanted us closer. He didn't take into consideration what I wanted, and didn't listen to my constant protests about having to leave my job, my church and my friends. Not to mention that my parents would be accross the country. Anyway, because he didn't listen to me at all, or respect my wishes, I've moved back to the state where my parents are on the east coast from at 27 weeks pregnant. I don't really have any money without my husband's income, and I don't think I can get a job being this far along in pregnancy. I probably should have just stayed in NY where my job was, but my husband basically sold the house out from under me. I'm really in a jam. I've been at my parents house for two days after a nightmare of packing, and having to live through construction work being done to the NY house. I need to focus on the baby now (I'm so surprised that nothing bad has happened with all this stress), but don't have any insurance now because my parents are in a different state where I was working, and I can't afford COBRA having basically no money. I'm not going back to my husband who has made this baby thing a nightmare. He's also very controlling in other ways (if this wasn't enough), so I just can't go with him. Please help me with any advice. I'm very stressed, but at least with my parents, so that helps some.

Ok, if you have pretty much no money you can apply for medicaid. I don't know if this is nationwide, but there is a program called MOMS that is JUST for pregnant women and kids that you can probably apply for at your city's health department.

I agree with Kay. You should apply for medicaid.

hey, I'm a social worker in nyc and if you have no income and are supported by your parents you are defanitely eligible for pcap which is pregnant medicaid in ny. b/c your married, his income usually comes into play but make sure whoever you're applying with knows you're not living with him. good luck and I'll check back to see if you need any more info.

wow, first off, I'm sooo sorry you are going through this at such a special time in your life. I was laid off from my job when I was about 28 weeks pregnant with my first due to a pregnancy issue. Anyways, the nurse at my doctors office suggested medicaid. I live on the east coast, so its worth a shot. Also, can you apply for unemployment even though you quit? Good luck

no you cant apply for medicaid if you quit. you would have had to been fired/laidoff

Rachel - I am so sorry this really sucks! I'd say try to apply anyway - you relocated and then moved back - so the same rules may not apply...

Rachel, we miss you on the June Mommies board. I'm so sorry that you are going through this. You must be really strong, as is your baby for dealing with all this and staying healthy. My advice would be like everyone else's. Apply for Medicaid. I have it and to be perfectly honest with you, it is better than the insurance I had when I was working full time. They will ask for your husbands info and income and everything else, but it will not come into play if you are not living with him, especially since he is in another state. Also, I don't think the state can deny a pregnant woman medical insurance, but I may be wrong, I'm in PA and the laws are probably somewhat different. Good luck to you, and remember we're all here to support you!

I know at least in Missouri you can get Medicaid and/or WIC (google WIC as I can't remember what it stands for). You automatically can get medicaid if you don't have a job, but even if you DO have a job you can still get medicaid if you are pregnant! I was pregnant a year ago (that one ended in m/c) but I had a great paying job and thought I had maternity benefits on my insurance but when I went to the first OB appt. I found out I didn't. I panicked and went to the Department of Family Services office and they said that since I was pregnant and could show proof from my doctor's I qualified for medicaid. It pays everything, so definitely call your state's social services office. Good luck to you and it sounds like you are doing what is the right thing for you and your baby :)
