HI, I am a bit of a chilli fiend (just finished a vindaloo then!). Chilli is fine, just think of all those asian and indian babies! It can definitely contribute to the heartburn factor though ... if this is the case you need to avoid it. Personally for me it doesnt make any difference what I eat I get heartburn anyway, so I still eat chilli.

Hey there.... no, chili doesn't do your baby any harm. 3babies is right.. the only thing it does is that it causes heartburn but if it doesn't affect you then enjoy your food!!! I LURVE my curries and since you being in Asia you would know what Belachan is yea?!?

Why do you want to hav chilli when pregnant. And for your kind information 3babies.....even though Indians have spicy food, they don't eat chilli in pregnancy. though chilli does not do any harm to your baby it is not healthy either. Even I like chilli but avoid it during pregnancy. hope this helps.

How is chili not healthy!! Are you kidding me?? Its loaded with all kinds of nutrients. Chili has green peppers, onions, tomatoes and beans (which are very good for you) and if you make it with the lowest fat meat, you are eating really a low fat meal. My husband makes it with 97% fat free ground Turkey meat about every other week and I LOVE IT. hes omitted the hot peppers for my heartburns sake but i put a dollop of skim sour cream on top and im ready to chow down. Chili is 80% veggies NHA how could you say that it isnt healthy for you???

I am not talking about the green/red peppers. Chilli does cause heartburn which is difficult to cope up. I never said that bell peppers aren't good....we are talking about green chillies which are hot, can cause heartburn and make stomach upset. You can go ahead and have lots of chillies if you are comfortable Hannahbaby but I certainly don't think any food whic gives heartburn to be healthy.

"though chilli does not do any harm to your baby it is not healthy either." thats your quote. Chili is not unhealthy because it can give you heartburn, heartburn is harmless, thought annoying. All you chickes out there who love chili....eat up!!

My mom ate so much Mexican food, like green chili enchiladas and rellenos, with my brother that he swears that's the reason he loves HOT salsa, chili and other such things. It doesn't hurt the baby at all. My mom said that was the the only thing that didn't give her heartburn with him :) And by the end of pregnancy, EVERYTHING can give you heartburn!! LOL Been there, done that :)

heh heh i just find this question too funny. nothing in moderation is bad - chili is food it's not like you're putting alcohol in your system, then why would it be bad?? for the ladies who were able to tolerate spicy food but now cannot due to their pregancy, simple solution cut down!! Good Luck :)

I love chili!! My heartburn hasn't been bad with it at all, but it gives me bad gas which I hate!! :) It's also very healthy for you, those beans are great sources of protein too! I make a batch and take it to work every day for lunch. Yum! Now I want some more!!! Also, they say the more foods you expose your baby too in the belly, the more likely they are to be less picky. So eat those curries, spices and beans and whatever else you can dig up! (healthy of course!)

I'm glad this topic was brought up. I also love spicy food and believe the more foods you expose your baby to the better. I'm trying to to cook more foods and can't believe I never thought about chilli, especially with turkey. Thanks

I craved garlicky things with baby #1, and he loves Italian food now. Veggies, though, were not something I could eat many of, other than a salad and carrots. He hates vegetables now and has never liked them. So there is definitely something to be said for eating a wide variety of foods while pregnant. And seriously, heartburn, while uncomfortable for you, doesn't harm the baby. It's a side effect of being pregnant. By about 6 months with baby #1, plain old WATER gave me heartburn! White rice gave me heartburn. Anything I ate gave me heartburn. It's part of the physiology of pregnancy. I ate Tums by the handful for a little relief as nothing else helped. Hope nobody else has it that bad :)

HannahBaby - April 22

I WAS A JALAPENO PEPPER FREAK when i was pregnant with my first ( no she didnt have alot of hair either) But with this baby i had a pepperoni sub last night and literally 5 mins after i ate it i was on the toilet (sorry tmi :o) so i will be staying away from the peppers this time!!

I ate a lot of spicy hot hot stuff with my first pregnancy, got lots of heartburn towards the end but i just couldn't stay away from it. My baby girl came out just fine with tonnes of hair. (Hair i think is in our genes). I'm doing the same with my second pregnancy. I think if u r used to it, it is fine. I didn't even get any stomach upsets. Everybody is different, but i don't think it will harm the baby otherwise we would have definately know about it.
