Hi ladies! I'm 16 weeks pregnant and went in for an u/s today for a cervical length check ( I've have a history of D&Cs) and the technician said I had a low lying placenta. Good news is my cervix is average in length. I don't see my doctor until the 19th and don't want to bother him needlessly. I figured if there was a problem the technician would have said something. Has anyone been diagnosed with a low lying placenta? What have your doctors told you about it? I'm a bit of a worrier as I've had three first trimester losses and three D&C's. I've made it this far and pray that nothing goes wrong. I also had a hematoma earlier in my pg but that has shrunk down considerably and I've had no bleeding from him. Thanks ladies for any input you can give me!

Hi Allie. I too have had several u/s to check cervical length due to one D&C and one Leep procedure over a year ago. With my first pregnancy, I had a low lying placenta found at 17weeks but by 26 weeks, it had moved up and away. This is the case in like 99% of the time since the uterus has more stretching to do. Regardless, as long as it's not covering the cervix, there is a great chance yours will move up! It's great that your doctors are staying on top of these things. Hang in there!

Awesome Jessica! Thanks so much. I also had a LEEP done back in 2000 so that's another risk factor. My cervix was considered "average" today. I go back on the 19th. I wasn't expecting to be told I had a low lying placenta. I guess we all want everything to be perfect but there are so many bumps along the way it seems! :) Thanks for rea__suring me. I really hope my placenta moves up!

You are so welcome! I know how you feel about the bumps along the way. I have had 2 early miscarriages, so it just seems unfair that we have to worry about other things when our pregnancies seem to be going ok. I am currently 21 weeks with our second and I also had a subchorionic hematoma found at 8 weeks. Talk about a roller coaster for awhile. I find myself envious of so many women who have boring, non-eventful pregnancies, LOL. I guess when you've had m/c it's so hard not to worry about everything. I wish you a H&H pregnancy!! :)

hey there.. i am 22 wks pregnant with my first and have been diagnosed with a low lying placenta... i was diagnosed at 16 wks and last week at my ultrasound it hadnt changed. my dr said that as things grow it should slowly migrate... a lil word of warning though.. my dr said as it moves up and away from the cervix there could be possible spotting. he told me if its only spotting not to worry that its common with a low lying placenta.. well i just wanted to tell u what i had been told.. my dr is not concerned in the least.. and by the way.. CONGRATS!

Thanks girls for your responses! I just hate all the worrying and try not to but it's so hard. Now the last two evenings my lower back is aching and of course I read into it and think its premature labor! I know I'm being crazy. I just had an u/s today and they would have seen my cervix opening if that was the case but every little twinge or ache I worry. I too find myself envious of those who seem to have uneventful pregnancies. Sometimes I wish we were back in the day when we didn't have u/s's. The less we know the less we have to worry about!

I know this post is older, but wanted to add my 2cents in case someone else was going through this...
At 16wks with my dd I was I diagnosed with low-lying placenta (aka - placenta previa) - the NP suggested I wear one of the pregnancy belts, said that it not only gives you more support but some studies suggest it might help motivate the placenta to move on around.
I am with Jessica72 in that most of the time it will move on its own - think of it like a balloon expanding, it has further to move as you grown.
