Hey i'm new....im 18 weeks and just found out i'm having a girlll....just a quick question about braxton hicks....i feel like i might be starting them is it too soon? it feels real tight for about 5-10 seconds then its gone....

It sounds like Braxton Hicks to me. Mine started at 20 weeks with my first pregnancy. Just pay close attention to them. I did go into preterm labor at 30 weeks (still carried to 39 weeks!) but I don't think it had anything to do with the bh starting so soon! Fun! I am actually excited for those to start!!! I am 17 weeks!!! You should come join our Octmommies!!!

where are they usually?

The October mommies or Braxton Hicks?!?! Ha!

LOL braxton hicks...they seem to feel like they're the size of a penny maybe smaller and on the sides on my stomach

llukenjess - May 7

is that normal?

llukenjess - May 7

momtobe do your feel like mine?

momtobe924 - May 7

no mine are on the WHOLE front

llukenjess - May 7

does your WHOLE stomach get hard? or where the BH is?

momtobe924 - May 7

it seems to get hard all over but more where the actual contraction is...i've had about 5 today....is that bad?

llukenjess - May 7

I'm not sure...but i would contact your doc if you're scared....

No I don't think so momtobe, I think it is fine. That is how mine were anyway. what you are explaining are braxton hicks, Lukenjess it's weird I have been getting what you are explaining just small little places for a little while now and I don't know what that is. momtobe I really think you don't have anything to worry about. My BH's were the entire last 20 weeks multiple times a day. The thing that made me go in was at 30 weeks they became really intense and strong

yeah its really weird...i havnt had ones like momtobe is explaining...my whole stomach hasnt gotten hard its just little pieces...

Braxton Hicks are referred to as "practice contractions". They are usually felt all over and encompa__s the entire uterus. At times they can be very painful, especially the further along you are, they can actually stop you in your tracks. I am 29 weeks and they don't get any better. I started having them at about 15 weeks. If you came into the situation where they were back to back and not letting up then that would be the time to call your OB, otherwise, just add it to the list on inconvieniences of pregnancy. This is my second pregnancy and this time we are expecting a boy.

Hi ladies. I think I may be experiencing B.H., but not sure. 2 nights in a row this week when I laid down for the night I felt my whole uterus get as hard as a rock- literally. I did not have any pain w/ it though. I am 18 weeks along as of today, anyone else have this happen, or how can I tell wether or not it really is B.H.? Is 18 weeks too early to feel them?

so, momtobe924/llukenjess. how've you been feeling? btw. they're the same person.

hi ladies....hope you do not mind if i b___t in. i just had my last well baby checkup on tuesday ( i am 24 weeks, 3 days) anyway, i have been having BH contractions for a while....even not feeling them (the ultrasonographer caught one at 18 weeks guring an US.) I have been feeling them now for a few weeks. anyway, they are perfectly normal....apparently they are your uterus "practicing". my. dr. smiled at my concern and said 1) as long as there is no pain or bleeding and 2) as long as you have no more than 5 in an HOUR than everything is great. she said if i have 5 in an hour that she wants me back in the office right away to see here. anyway, please do not worry yourselves, sounds like everyone is on the right track. best of luck to all!
