I used to work in the paint dept at lovely Home Depot and have learned that as long as it is a water based paint, which most are now a days (they have gotten rid of or are faising out interior oil based paint) that even pregnant you can still paint. I do not know of a fumeless paint, but the way paint is made now a days you would be suprised at how truly little it does smell, unless of course you are in a freshly painted room with all the windows shut then you can smell it. I believe it is always safe as long as you are in a good condition to begin with and like I said, you can't be up and down on ladders to much, basically keep your feet on the ground and paint, haa haa.

oohh and just to be even on the safer side, maybe where a mask, just one of those light cheapy ones you can get for like 50 cents or something. And don't forget it should be a nice day out so you can have all the windows open.

ok thanks for the advice Beth! Another question since you seem to be a paint expert ;) What kind of paint should be used in a bathroom.. the paint is cracking and peeling.. it is really ugly and I want to fix it up! I think I'm getting pickier about this kind of thing now.. I want everything to be perfect for the baby!

Have any of you started the baby's room yet?? What are you doing the nursery in?

citrouille - April 15

we only have one bedroom so the baby is staying in the same room as us. I'm planing on making an nice "area" of the room. When the baby is older we'll move out to the living room.

I haven't started the nursey yet. But, I did order the crib and dressers.

Citrouille, in the bathroom you should use at least Semi gloss paint (or high gloss, it is just a step higher in the gloss!), the water and steam then do not seep into the paint, you can see the shine on the paint. Semi gloss should alos be used in the kitchen. If your cupboards are painted you should use a step above called high gloss. If the old paint in the bathroom is cracking you will need to sand down those parts and gets all the cracking paint off before painting over, if the paint already has a shine to it you need to get the shine off with something called TSP you wash your walls with it. It is supposed to get all the shine off so that the new paint will adhear properly. Also I would recommend primering it before you paint again also. The primer will help adhear more to the wall and the new paint will adhear better to the primer. In other rooms such as the living room and so forth where a flat, eggshell or satin is used there is really no need for primers! When we moved in our house everything was brand new and a flat white which gets dirty very quick. I did the kids rooms in Satin and the hallway and livig room in eggshell which has no shine to it. Oh and for the sanding and TSP, I would recommend NOT doing while pg, only the painting, the sanding can release allot of chemicals and the TSP is very strong!

I have not started the nursery yet because I need to find out the s_x of the baby first, we do already have a crib though. I LOVE frogs and am doing a frog theme. If you go to www.babysupermall.com and type in frog or frogs in the search box all the frog bedding will come up and I am going to choose from one of those!

thanks! wow you are a mine of information :) Ok so if I decide to paint I won't do the bathroom nor the kitchen!

Hee hee, thanks!! I am doing my guest bathroom in a "coffee" theme. I chose this because while in Seattle my fiance bought me a painting of the original starbucks that started there in Seattle. It is really pretty, but we have absolutely no where in the kitchen to hang it, our kitchen is all cupboards, and the little space there is I hung a clock and a message board. So I decided to do the bathroom in a coffee theme and hang it and get brown and beige towles and paint in a cream color and get late cups with candles in them. I found this really cool site with coffee candles. Anyhow my point was is that I can't paint it right now either because even though it was a brand new house they still did use semi gloss white in the bathrooms so I would have to TSP it and there are no windows in the guest bathroom :0(

Beth, when is your Ultrasound?? I for get, I am thinking you said May something, but not sure. I am doing the nursery in duckies, I got really cute wall stickers of a bunch of duckies riding in a train, and then there is other stickers to scatter around the room, there are frogs, dragonflies, and stars.

Well it is supposed to be May 10, but I may have to postpone it a few days. My fiance has a meeting in San Diego that day that ends at 4:00 and I don't feel that he will be able to make it home in an hour to be there, he has been to all the apts with me and of all of them this is the one I don't want him to miss. Although we did talk about it the other day and I am keeping the apt for now and if I do go without him then he made me promise that I will not tell anyone until I tell him and I can get him something to let him know what it is!! aaaaww your nursery sounds so cute!! I can't wait to find out so I can paint the walls!!

Hi everyone, NM, Sorry to hear about the pinched nerve, that must be painful. Beth, you're gonna our paint expert. That's some good info... I am still in the process of buying my first home.... I'm a little nervous because I know that I have to take Maternity leave and I only get 66% of my salary for 6 weeks and the other six weeks is unpaid. My husband (he's a genius) quit his job a couple of months ago and he has been working on and off. So, that makes me nervous too, but he swears he will have it together before the baby is born. Well, as for the baby (Amaya) she hasn't been too active over the past couple of days... I think I'll use my doppler when I get off of work today. Sometimes I sit here and stare the u/s pic in amazement because I think it is so wonderfull to have another life growing in me. I just look at the u/s and think "wow, that's my baby". God is so good... I think this is truly a blessing... OK, let me stop before I start crying overhere... I'm a little emotional this morning. TGIF!!

I hope he can make it, he really should be there. I have another ultrasound on May 17. I will be 30 weeks then, so I can't wait, it should be really clear what everything is then. My last one was at 23 weeks, and it was good.

Beth - April 15

I really hope he can make it too!! He goes to all my dr's apts with me now, haa haa, even today just for my nose. He has the day off so he said "I can go!!" WOW, 30 weeks, I can't wait!! And Lucky I would be glad to be your paint expert, haa haa, and anything else to do with Home Depot seeing as how my finace is a manager there and the questions are just a call away!! :0) Lucky, I think my pay is only 60-65% of my pay :0(, but the good thing is is that only the first week is not paid, the 5 weeks after that are and then on top of that we have a bonding leave now that I think went into affect in Jan of last year and it is another 2 or 3 months paid!

Jennifer - April 15

Beth...seeing how you are the paint expert, what are some good names of colors. I want a shade of green, becasue we don't know the s_x, and I don't want yellow, I have to much yellow in my house now. I just don't know what color to go with.
