Please Help So Confused And Possibly Pregnant

My current situation is so complicated....I'm going to try to explain it as well as I can without boring everyone to death: I started taking birth control pills 2 months ago. I had terrible side effects the first month....heavy bleeding for 15 days and nausea, migraines, and vomiting, etc. I took them at the same time every day. I tried to continue on to the second month thinking it might get better, but once I started the active pills it was so much worse - so I stopped taking them on day 6 of the second months' active pills. My boyfriend and I had unprotected s_x the day before I stopped my pills, and the afternoon of (I gave up and quit them that night and just didn't take it because I felt terrible). I started bleeding about 2-3 days after I stopped them....more like heavy spotting really. It wasn't like a normal period because it was much lighter but it still lasted about 5 days. Before the bc pills I was always SUPER regular and relied a lot on the calendar method - predicting my fertile window and using protection during that time. The 2-3 days right before my periods I would not insist on using condoms because I considered this to be a safe time. (granted I know there is always some risk). Anyway, I used that method for 4 years and never got pregnant. My question now is........I am 3 days late for my period and am having sore nipples and fatigue. I feel mild cramps, but not as strong as they usually are with my periods. Could I be pregnant from having s_x right BEFORE stopping the pill? I figured it would be in my system at least for a few days and that I wouldn't ovulate immediately, but I guess it's possible? I have felt period like cramps for a few days now and have been due to start my period 3 days ago....so I figured it was just about to come on....and I didn't use condoms last night or the night before using my previous calendar logic. But now I'm really worried that maybe my spotting after stopping the pills was my new PERIOD and not just withdrawal bleeding? If that's the case and that spotting the week I quit my pills WAS a period....then s_x right now as I'm awaiting my period would put me right at ovulation time. I'm so confused by all of this and am so anxious. Lastly......I tested the day before my period was due and it was negative. I tested today (but not first morning pee) and it was also negative. Does this effectively rule out pregnancy from s_x right at stopped pills? I would like to take plan b to be sure today and yesterday's s_x doesn't get me pregnant....but I'm worried it would be harmful if I was pregnant already from earlier this month. Are negative tests now reliable? Please help! I'm sorry this was incredibly long....I really made a mess for myself and would really appreciate any help from others with sorting this out. I don't know when I was more likely to ovulate.....should I take plan b tomorrow?

Yes, quite confusing. No, you can't begin to trust a negative hpt until two weeks late on a regular cycle or a month after suspect s_x, but at least you can derive hope. PlanB at this stage is going to further complicate the picture, but if it will set your mind at ease, go right ahead. Thanks for the input on your 4 years of modified rhythm method. Good luck in the present dilemma - there is no clear cut answer.

Thank you for your response! I am just very unnerved by this missing period. I really feel like i should be bleeding but every day nothing is there and it's making me really anxious. Sometimes I swear I've started and rush to the bathroom but there still is nothing. I don't like it. I'm so undecided about plan b. If I take it it has to be tonight, or I'll be out of the 72 hr window. I want to take it just to be safe....but I also am worried that it would hurt the baby if somehow I actually am pregnant from earlier this month and it just isn't showing up yet. I'm only 4 days late... Sigh....

I don't believe PlanB would hurt an existing pregnancy - there would be major warnings if this were true. Discharge "wet down there, running to the bathroom thinking AF.." is an occasional early pregnancy post. In your case, messed up pill taking could also cause this symptom.

I did take plan b last night. I took it just shy of the 72 hour mark though....around 65 hours. Hopefully this is still effective? I figured I'd rather at least try it rather than regret not doing what I could later. .....STILL absolutely no sign of my period. Every night I'm convinced that I am going to start because I get period cramps that feel like AF - but every day it is nothing but perfectly clear discharge. My nipples are still tender, and I am still very very tired. I have so little energy lately and I have been going to be between 7 and 8 whenever I get the chance. I'm still worried even though I tested negative already. 5 days late now but I haven't tested since Monday. I think I want to wait until the weekend to be sure I can trust the result (plus those tests are not cheap!).

The Dollar Store has cheap tests, but you may have to ask the cashier where they are kept. GL!

Are the Dollar Store tests reliable? What is there accuracy like compared to EPT or another name brand test? I like the price of them, but worry that they aren't as reliable!

There is no reason to think the Dollar Store tests are any less accurate than those used in the hospital, doc office, or Health Department. What you pay for in the store is packaging. The hPT hormone should double every few days, going from 5 to 100,000 in the first trimester, but some women are slower than others.

So I am 8 days late now, and I still am testing negative with home tests. I tried ept and the dollar tree tests. The ept tests were without a doubt negative, but the dollar tree tests show a faint line with the dye briefly but then it fades away. When the test first begins it is there but fades within seconds to a negative. Is this just how the tests work? Because it says to look at the results after 3 minutes, and by this point it is definitely negative. I'm still completely exhausted and have been having cramps for over 2 weeks now. The past few days I've noticed a lot of clear discharge (kind of like when I'm ovulating). I've been very emotional too....I notice myself overreacting to things. If I went to get a blood test will that be able to tell me for sure if I'm pregnant or not? I'm just so tired of wondering and at this point I just want to know for sure one way or the other. How accurate are blood tests? If a blood test says negative can I really trust it? Thanks....
