This is very long because I'm just trying to get major insight and give enough information for a very good answer or possible explanation.
First, a little background. I am 22 years old and was put on Yasmin at 13 due to very irregular and very heavy periods. My gynecologist ruled it to be PCOS which proved true a little bit later due to abnormal insulin levels stating I was insulin resistant. At 14 or 15, I was switched to Yaz and then I was recently switched to the generic version, Gianvi, in either January or February (I can't really remember.. I suppose it doesn't exactly matter). Up until about two weeks ago, I was also taking Metformin. My levels came back normal and my doctor gave me permission to go off of it. Now, my periods have always been regular since being on Yaz. 28 day cycles and 4 day periods where the first three days are moderate to heavy and then taper off into barely even needing a pad the third and fourth day.
When it comes to taking my pills at the same time every day, I'm generally pretty bad at it - which isn't very responsible of me, but usually they are taken around a span of maybe a 2-3 hour difference. I've never missed a pill. However, a few times this past month, I have been sidetracked by homework and assignments where I would forget to take my pill at my usual "9 PM" and end up taking it around 3 or 4 AM, and then at my normal 9 or 10 PM time later that evening. I can see where this could be considered a double dose of my birth control in a 24 hour period. I just wanted to stress that I do not MISS pills, simply take them a little bit later than what I should take them sometimes.
Before this most recent "period", my last cycle was March 20th and all was normal. Now, on April 8th, I made a really big regretful mistake and had a one night stand with an acquaintance of mine. It was very heat of the moment but we did use a condom. However, at the end we realized the condom broke. The next morning I did go to the pharmacy and ask for Plan B and my pharmacist told me that because I was on birth control, there was no need to take it as Yaz is pretty good at inhibiting ovulation and I haven't missed any pills. Despite her reassurance and my constant researching of birth control failure rates, I was pretty stressed all week and anxiously awaiting my period which was supposed to start, according to my tracking software on my phone, on April 17th. I got it on April 16th instead but it started kind of light (which made me freak out initially about implantation bleeding that I've read so much about because it was pink) but about an hour later turned into a bit of a "flow" and bright red. Enough to fill half a tampon for the two hours I had one in before changing into another one after going to the bathroom. Later that night, I fell asleep with my tampon in and when I awoke the next morning, I had found that I leaked through it. All day on Sunday I had menstrual cramps and aching in my lower back into a little bit on Monday. I was also hungover, though, so I can't really tell you much about fatigue.
Also, if I weren't on birth control and I was going by a normal 28 day cycle, ovulation should have occurred somewhere between April 2nd and 3rd.. making the possibility of my most fertile periods somewhere between March 27th - April 5th perhaps. I had s_x on April 8th - this is how I tried to ease my mind, ha.
The blood was still pretty heavy and very, very dark red with some "clots" or what I believed to be endometrial lining that sometimes passes in a menstrual period. I even passed some more "clots" when I went to the bathroom later that day. However, later into the evening, the flow had kind of slowed down. By Monday night, there was almost no blood and by Tuesday, simply old brown blood. My period was kind of only 3 days and somewhat lighter which really worries me because now I've read that implantation bleeding can have an actual flow to it and last 3 days mimicking a menstrual cycle. I feel like there could be factors that contributed to this weird somewhat abnormal period for me that haven't been existent in past months.
A few of them in as much of an order as I can give:
1. I started taking Adderall after being diagnosed with adult ADD around March 12th - as a result, my sleep patterns have been a little off trying to adjust to the medication. For instance, I sometimes don't sleep until 5 in the morning and then wake up at 11 AM.
2. I quit taking my Metformin roughly 2 weeks ago (the same week I had s_x).
3. I've been exercising a lot more frequently - around 90 minutes 5 days a week give or take since March 11th.
4. As a result of #3, I have lost a total of about 10-12 lbs since March 11th to today, April 22nd.
5. I was super stressed between April 9th (when I had s_x) to April 16th, when I started my "period".
I was hoping some of these could be factors that could cause a lighter and somewhat shorter period. Then again, when I think about it, I usually don't pay attention to my periods - simply this one because I was worried. I don't feel like I have any of the supposed early pregnancy symptoms other than moderate fatigue but it has also been very dreary and rainy in my part of the woods right now and I often feel fatigued and drained when the weather is anything other than sunshine - plus my awkward sleep schedule. I've been a little hungrier than usual but with my workouts, I feel that is pretty normal for me and it mostly occurs at night time when my Adderall is starting to wear off (and it's kind of a side effect because it kills my appet_te during the day. By night time, I am ravaged.) My br___ts were tender the week of my "period" and subsided soon after. I've been getting headaches recently but mostly at night time and are most likely hand in hand with coming off of my Adderall and a combination of my sinuses acting up (I have some post nasal drip going on at the moment).
I know that the smartest thing to do is just take a test and ease my mind, and I will be, but I'm just trying to figure the possibility of things (and I know anything is possible). Also, for those who don't know anything about Metformin.. in women who have PCOS, it helps them ovulate. This means that technically my Yaz should be working against that part of it. This is what worries me. :/ Any information would be great.
At the moment I am not trying to conceive - as you can see. I'm not in a relationship so please don't flame me for that. I'm always very careful and use protection. I don't know what will happen if I am pregnant but I do know that I am not ready to raise or care for a child at this moment in time because I still kind of consider MYSELF a child, ha. :/
