CHILD SUPPORT PATERNITY TEST

I don't want to go into too much detail about my situation but I would like to get some info on the whole filling paperwork. I DO NOT want my child to have my baby daddies last name NOR do I want my bd on the Birth Certificate. But I don't want childsupprt from him. I was told I don't need a paternity test done by him in order to get this. I know if he signs the Paternity Test he is saying that he accepts that he is the father, doesn't need a paternity test to prove it but then doesn't that paper also mean he has rights to the child as well?? Sorry I am due in 4days I am trying to get this all figured out. I DON'T want him at the hospital or coming to see my child. We had a steady relationship for 3yrs and when he found out I was pregnant he left me. There is so much more to this story but like I said, I don't feel like going into detail. I hope someone understands what I am asking and can give me some info. Greatly Appreciated :)

I think the regulations vary by state. Where do you live? You could perhaps call Social Services or Family Court Clerk to get an answer without having to pay a lawyer.

California. I did but they sent me to the website and it was too much to read and look around for answers

I Googled "california name on birth certificate single mother" and got interesting hits on the ehow.com site. If I read the information correctly, the mother gets to choose much of what goes on the birth certificate, including no name of father. In California you and the father can later sign a Voluntary Declaration of Paternity if you both choose, giving the baby rights to financial support from both parents, including access to the other partner's health benefits. Such a Declaration implies custody arrangements. Google "california declaration paternity custody" for hits on that. I believe it will be very difficult to have child support and no visitation, unless he is cool with that arrangement. Good luck with the delivery!

The later signing of the Declaration of Paternity involves a judge's decision on support and custody. You have not provided much detail, but I suppose if there is incontrovertible evidence that the child would be endangered by visitation or shared custody, the judge could so order.
