My ex will probably NOT show up for a court date if I file for child support. I'm just wondering if anyone has been through this before? Do they really arrest people? How many women have taken there exs to court and then their ex was arrested?? BTW my ex said he doesn't mind jail and he actually quite likes it... (whatever that means)

freshfaeries; they do arrest them when they get behind on the child support. I have been through the initial trial, but thank God my son's father has never skipped a time in 4 years. He pays child support, pays for medical & dental insurance, and pays half of all medical bills. Keep in mind I actually make more than him!!!

He's probably just talking tough to get on your nerves. If he has a job, being locked up is a problem. Just ignore him and go to court. Besides, the court may be able to file a default order if they can obtain information from his job, which they can request. So he's not accomplishing anything. They can still garnish his checks despite his stupidity. And, yes, they will issue a bench warrant if he doesn't show up.

Even if he gets put in jail he still has to work while in jail to pay you child support. There's really no running away from it for him.

Oh yes...my recent ex had a warrant out for his arrest for child support. Another friend knew someone who did 2 6-month stints in jail for failure to pay child support. In PA, it takes a long time but they will eventually get the scofflaw. In my ex's case, he filed for disability because he's a nutcake and an alcoholic, and that stops the court proceedings because the kids will get $800/month while he is on disability. But, if there is no disability filing or other exceptional circ_mstance, at least in PA, they will put your b___t in jail and quickly. I've seen it. And yeah, some of these guys go to jail once or twice, and if the courts think that's no deterrent, they put an anklet on them, force them to work, make them report to a probation officer, attach their wages, and generally treat them like childish prisoners until they wise up. Your ex will be paying child support one way or another, and his willingness to go to jail won't stop the collection efforts. He will pay, one way or another. It takes time, but they get the money. Collections for child support are ruthless.

i filed a maintenance order for child support with a place called Family Maintenance Enforcment Program (im in canada but there has to be similar in the states, just phone Human Resources) and i didnt have to go to court. I also wasnt putting a custody order in place. There are steps involved with child support. My ex is currently over 7000 in dept with me and when it got to over 3000 and he made no effort no attempt to make payment arrangements they denied pa__sport and drivers licences. the second he got pulled over or insure a car, they pulled and voided his D/L. He isnt aloud to get this back untill he pays his dept. They go for personal a__sets he owns, home car etc... and take things away to pay what they owe. Jail is their last resort.
