How Do People Afford This

I am 8 weeks pregnant, single, and I don't know that the father is going to be much help either emotionally or financially.
I have a good job, but income is not steady--I am a real estate agent. I do not have health insurance that covers maternity, but I do not qualify for any state assistance...so it looks like this birth is going to cost about $10,000. That, plus the cost of my mortgage going up (roommate will be moving out), new baby health insurance, car payment, student loans and day care that meets the sporadic schedule of a real estate agent, is all going to add up to WAY more than I can afford--about $3000/month plus the delivery 10K. I truly have no idea how I'm going to pay for all of this.
I know people are in rougher spots than me--how do people do this?
Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

I am in a similar boat. I am finishing up my PhD and support myself with part-time teaching contracts. As I am due 9/30, I won't be able to teach next semester, which means I'm effectively unemployed mid-July through Jan. of next year!! The father is not in my life and does not provide financial support (he doesn't have a job). I, like you, have no employer-provided insurance. I am not sure what's available in your area, but I purchased my own insurance through Kaiser Permanente for $200/month, and it covers my maternity costs. My co-pay is $10-$25 a visit, depending on the service provided. I would imagine other HMOs would offer something similar. Also, I know that you might not want to do this, but what about taking out a home equity loan? That would give you some extra cash to cover baby expenses.
