Hi, I was reading through a thread that you posted on and had a question for you. You mentioned something about prenatal paternity testing. I know who my kid's dad is. He's an ass, but at least I know...read my custody and visitation thread!! :-) Anyway, a good friend of mine got drunk and stupid at a New Year's Eve party with a girl he met that night, and now she's pregnant. Her due date is September 22nd, so it's just barely possible for it to be his. Long story short, things are very fishy, and now he is wondering...he won't sign the birth certificate until a paternity test is done, but I had no idea they could be done before the baby is born. Can you tell me a little about them? When can they be done? Do you need a specialist? How is it done? I'd like to let him know whatever I find out. If he finds out it's not his BEFORE then he's not gonna waste his money on buying her cribs and carseats and stuff. Thanks.

Hi.....my B-day is Sept 22nd and my mother concieved me on or aruonf Nwe Year's. The baby is most likely his....but of course, I don't know the whole story...so if he feels he needs to get a paternity test, he should.

one more thing..when i put in the baby's b-day in the retro calculator on mymontlycycles.com...it states the baby was concieved on or around Dec 30th. That would make the girl's claim seem valid. Anyways, hope i could help

He doesn't know if she was screwing around with anyone else or not, but she won't let him be involved except when she wants money, and now someone close to her (a mutual friend, but closer to her) is pushing him to get a paternity test, when before she said "don't bother it's yours." She seems to know something but won't let on. Anyway, the girl had an amnio, and I guess they have the chromosome pattern or something (checking for down's syndrome, I guess they would). So how exactly are the prenatal paternity tests done? Does he need her permission? Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

https://gene57.securesites.net/genecorp/prenatal/prenatalinformation.htm The name of the company is Genetest and they can do non-invasive prenatal paternity testing where they only need blood from the mother and a sample from the father-- hairs (with the roots), blood or a swab from the inside of the mouth. However, if she has already had an amnio then I would imagine they should be able to do a paternity test based on information/DNA collected from the Amnio compared against a DNA sample from your friend. I would imagine she would need to agree to the paternity test, he couldn't access that data without her permission--it would have to be a joint effort. I think the best thing for him to do would maybe be to call one of these genetics testing places--if you do a search for "prenatal paternity testing" on Google a ton of results come up. I would imagine a number of those places could provide advice on how to proceed. It sounds like the trick is to get her to agree to the test. It she's asking for money though without proof he is the father I don't think he has to give her anything. It's probably in her best interest to prove it if she can. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Isn't it amazing the c___ppy situations we sometimes get ourselves into?? Like, any other time it wouldn't matter, but one "oops" and you have a lifetime of headaches. Not that I would give my unborn son back for anything, but I wish I could change the circ_mstances and other half of his chromosomes...oh well. There is forgiveness for stupid choices we make, but there are still consequences. At least I get a beautiful baby boy out of the deal. Thanks again. Good luck with your situation. How far along are you? Keep us posted with how things go.

From conception--depending on the day and daddy--I am about 6 or 7 weeks. I guess by LMP I am about 8 weeks. I am really still coming to terms with everything, it's still surreal. I know it will work out eventually particularly when I can get it together knowing who the father is at 12 weeks from conception---the time can't go by fast enough! So glad this site and board is available!

I hear ya! It's not like I don't have friends and family to talk to, but somehow it's nice to chat with strangers online!! It helps having other women who have situations similar to yours that can relate to you, or at the very least, can relate to being preggo. You may have said already, but is this your first? It is mine. I am 22 weeks and due Nov. 18th. I understand now why last year a friend of mine complained of being sick of pregnancy in the summer. It is 90 degrees and super humid here today, and we have no air conditioning!! Only a wimpy fan to b__w around hot air. I'm glad I'm not bigger than I am, but still, I'm miserable.
