HI everyone, I am new to this board. I am expecting my first child in February and am having tons of problems coming up with enough money even to eat! I am a graduate student in Oregon as is my pregnant girlfriend. We were wondering about Medicaid and how we should apply. We are trying to figure out if it is going to hurt us to put my name on the birth certificate and tell them we are living together. They won't insist that the father pays the bills if he doesn't have any money right??? If you aren't married but are living together do they consider your joint money or what and does anyone know how much money you are allowed to have at any one time to stay on medicaid. Neither of us works. I am going to start working next summer after the child is born and I am not in classes. We have a weird money situation. We get all of our money (loans) for the year immedietely when the semester starts so it looks like a lot but it is not when it comes to the fact neither of us will recieve a penny more afterwords and the money is NOT enough to even cover our expenses as it is as soon as day care comes up. This is why we are asking. As graduate students in oregon you can not get any support for childcare! Also, my girlfriend's dad is wondering if he should drop her from his insurance becuase in oregon there are no participating providers and she will have to pay co-pays, 20% of bills at least, and also a huge deductible for each year :( Does anyone one know if it can hurt you to have partial insurance I know medicaid would pay the whole bill without insurance but what if you have it??? Thanks everyone for your help. I wouldn't be asking but it really is going to be tough without it!
Chris

Not sure about Medicaid, but wanted to add that you should also look into WIC and foodstamps. Not sure if you qualify for foodstamps, but I'm a grad student as well and I qualified for WIC.
