You can stop drinking before it gets any worst on the baby. By you drinking while being pregnant it increases the childs life to be pre-mature.

I am so scared... I just turned 21 I have been drinking non-stope for the last 3 days. I am 4 days late.... think I could have hurt the fetus? I am soooooo scared? Please some one... could I have hurt the baby?

Hey Jen, usually before 6wks what you eat and drink doesn't usually hurt the baby, because it hasn't formed the placenta yet--so it's not getting what you put into your body. Just from your blood. Which, yes, alcohol, would be in your blood, but they say that in early early pregnancy if you've drank or whatever it most likely will not affect your baby, just make sure you stop immediatly if you find out you are pregnant.

You can't un-ring a bell. Whatever you did, you did. Although binge drinking is not good for anyone to do, pregnant or not. It's in God's hands now.

I was 10 weeks when I found out I was pregnant and was doing the same thing. I feel sooo guilty now.. I was smoking too =\ Makes me feel so bad. I'm just hoping everything will be fine since I stopped doing both when I found out..

Sarah for the sake of your baby stop drinking..and for your own sake try educating yourself as much as possible on the effects of alcohol abuse while pregnant...I pray your baby will make it.

Every woman worries that something will be wrong with her baby, even when she feels she has done everything right. I agree with everyone who says just stop drinking now, take prenatal vitamins & eat well and find a Doctor or midwife and be totally honest with him/her. Maybe it would also be helpful to talk to someone like a psychologist or therapist to deal with issues of guilt. You cannot change the past, just do positive things moving forward. As for all the women who tried to frighten & shame this scared women, Shame on you! As a pregnant woman you should no better. Are all the critics eating organic food, planning on b___stfeeding, staying at home with their babies, going to be the perfect parent? Let the one without sin cast the first stone. Americans have been brainwashed to believe that one drop of alcohol will poison your baby, clearly they understand moderation better in Europe. Let's use our brains & be rational rather than reactive.

For God's sake, please get your information straight before giving out advice! The first 12 weeks are THE MOST IMPORTANT WEEKS OF DEVELOPMENT. ALL and I will say it again, ALL the baby's organs, bones, facial features, neurological systems and such are being formed then. After 12 weeks the systems fine tune themselves, but do not form, from 3 months on the baby grows and matures. Alcohol is never okay at any point in a pregnancy but has the most devastating effects in the FIRST 12 weeks.

Susan, I did not condone binge drinking, did I? No one can change the past, so Helen should just move forward and do the most positive things she can.

Helen, I didn't know I was pregnant until 14 weeks. I certainly drank until that time. I also smoked until about 3 weeks before I found out. I told all of this to my doctor. She wasn't overly concerned, she said to just stop (for reference she's one of the best ob/gyn's in a large city). I had also been sick (pneumonia) during the first trimester, as well has having lots of back problems resulting in an MRI, x-rays, and lots of miscellaneous medications. I did just about everything wrong. AND THINGS ARE FINE AT THIS POINT. I'm 20 weeks, the doc says everything is perfect. Repeating what has been said, everyone is different, and it's best to be as healthy as you can from now on. Take your vitamins, eat well, rest, and excercise. Good luck.
