A friend of mine has been trying to conceive for 6 months now, I told her that wasn't very long but she seems to think her irregular periods mean she is infertile. She has no proof behind it, she just has a gut feeling. I told her its way too soon to be jumping to the conclusion that she is infertile after such little time ttc. But, she wants farther input... So her question is; Are irregular periods at all associated with infertility?

do you know you only have a 25% chance of conceiving each month anyway................irregular periods can be a sign of pcos which can make ttc more difficult but not immpossable, they say it takes on average a completly healthy couple up to a year to conceive...........she should check ovulation if she has irregualr periods by taking opk tests taking temp ect

Yes, temperature charting would be a good move. Irregular periods go along with irregular ovulation - the period follows ovulation by about two weeks. I wonder if she can learn her signs of ovulation - mid-cycle cramps, fertile mucus, cervix high, wet and open. Good luck!

It takes normal couples up to a year to conceive. Took Jeff and I 5 months, sure that isn't a lot but that is with regular s_x nearly every day. Irregular periods can be a sign of PCOS like angel said. She should look up natural family planning, check her cervix for changes, her temp, things like that for signs of when she is ovulating.

How irregular exactly are her periods? Like a few days apart or does she only have a certain amount a year for example?

She said her periods are irregular by a few weeks, or in rare cases a month or so.

All the answers given sum up what i was going to say.
Try taking an ovulation test. They are at your local drug store or should be. They are next to the prego tests

welll no they are not a__sociated with infertillity. I have VERY irregular periods. I dont even get them sometimes and ive been pregnant 3 times. its all about timing. when you are irregular you have no idea when you are actually ovulating so the whole 14 day thing doesnt work AT ALL because sometimes its 14 days and somtimes its 10 and somtimes its like 20 it was so hard to try and find out when i was ovulating that i gave up and went on BC haha im allergic to the hormones so i didnt want to be on ANYTHING!! ummm if she is wanting to get pregnant she can start on prenatal vitamins this will help out a little bit. She should also take a look back at her periods over the last year and see if there is a pattern somwhere. example: her cycles are 28, 36, 48 then back around, not sure if she is that bad but i went for 3 months with no period then got pregnant with austin then had one 2 periods over a year and a half and got pregnant again

She hasn't been bothering with checking ovulation because of her irregular periods. She's doing it the old fashioned way---going at it like rabbits hahaha

If she's really TTC she shouldn't have s_x EVERY day. Lower sperm count. If you do it every 2 days it gives the spermies time to replenish.

I don't know if they're having s_x everyday haha. I'm not entirely informed about their s_x life. I was simply quoting her on a joke she made when I asked her if she was keeping track of her ovulation. I'm sure she's just having s_x like she normally does, only without protection.
