Will It Effect The Baby

My sister is pregnant. She will be 7 weeks next Tuesday. I have a question. She is not an alcoholic, but had some urge of wanting to drink problems back then. She's a smoker though. Before she took a pregnancy test, she did drink on weekends. Came out positive, took the urine test came back negative, started drinking...than about 2 weeks ago took another pregnancy test, came out positive and took a urine test, finally came out positive. What are the chances of her having a healthy baby with FAS. Will she have one or no? She is going for abortion on the 26th and apparently the nurse told her that she will have a deform baby. How would she know that?! Can somebody please tell me so I can talk to her out of this!!! I really want my neice or nephew.

Fetal Alcohol Sydrome is from prolonged exposure to alcohol. If she had a few binges, it would NOT result in FAS. If she is having an abortion b/c of what the nurse said, she is most likely aborting a perfectly healthy baby. Let's face it, alot of babies are conceived when couples have had too much to drink and they turn out fine.

I personally know of a child with FAS (I worked for a government a__sistance program) and all he has is Attention Deficit Disorder- NO other problems. She needs to speak to a real doctor asap.

No, experts agree that drinking a little in such an early stage of pregnancy will not likely harm the baby. Please do your best to convince her not to have an abortion,it is murdering a baby! There are so many people who would love to adopt the baby,if she doesn't want to keep it.Although she should stop smoking/drinking ASAP.She needs to go to an OBGYN,not an abortion clinic,I feel sure they would give her different advice.I agree with Clindholm.

FAS is unlikely when you drink that early in a pregnancy. I did with my daughter and she came out PERFECTLY fine. A nurse saying that is incredibly disgusting because no one can really know for sure. But I HIGHLY doubt the baby would get FAS.

Thanks you guys, my mum and I are like talking to her out of it. We told her just because she had some drinks doesnt mean that baby will be FAS. She's too paranoid. As for that nurse, I don't even think she's professional enough to know this. We're hoping she'll change her mind. She's been rubbing her belly lately and now getting nausea. I truly think she will change by then. I'll let you guys know. Thanks!

yeah she'll be alright but she needs to stop drinking now that she's gotten her positive. i drank the day before i found out i was pregnant and so far so good (knock on wood). and kick that nurse in the baby maker. who is she to tell someone "get an abortion". she needs to go back to nursing school if she thinks a few binge drinkings here and there have done the baby in.

Good new ladies!! She's keeping it!! I'm so excited we're all happy once again. I guess she did lots of thinking yesterday and the day before and she told her man that she's making a big mistake of getting rid a part of her. He's fine with her and support her 100%. Poor girl suffering bad morning sickness! More like...all day..haha she's going through what I went through with my 1st one. I'm soooo EXCITED!!! 8 Months left!!!
