1st Baby Scheduled C Section

My first baby is due tomorrow and he's showing no signs of coming on his own. This past week my Dr. ordered an u/s because he felt big, The u/s measured him to be ~ 9lbs. 7oz. I know there's room for error, but the Dr guessed it'd only be give or take a half a pound. He said based on the u/s and feeling my belly, he's no less than 9lb and could be 10! I really wanted a va___ally birth, but I'm afraid of hurting the baby. There is some shoulder problem that could cause permanent nerve damage. I quickly agreed to the c section because obivously his safety is first, but I'm feeling bummed and like I'm missing out on the whole experience. Has anyone else had tis happen? I know my next child will most likely have to be Csection also.

joy - what do you feel you'll be missing out on with a v____al birth? the horrific pain of contractions? the potential to have a 3rd or 4th degree tearing of the perinum (meaning the area that goes up to your rectum - making bowel movements feel like child birth) - it's really not all that much worse to do a c section. i k now i have had both - a 10lb child v____ally (no epidural or anything, and had a 4th degree tear after my epiosotomy ) and a 7lb child after 28 hours of labour - then needing an emergency C section due to heart rates dropping. why do you say your next child will most likely have to be a c section also?? you can definitely do a VBAC if you have a csection this time if that is truly your preference. i am now expecting my 3rd child and will likely have a scheduled c section, ONLY for the reason of i have placenta previa now. but my doc has pointed out look at how many people elect for a c section to skip all the drama you have with a vag. birth - - you are much more calm and serene and there are less risks to the baby. while i would have liked the opportunity to try a VBAC this time (simply for the healing time afterward and i have other children already that i will need to care for) --- the placenta previa is making that NOT a choice. . . . . i think you will do great. and you are right what's best for the little (or big in your case) guy is what you want to do. good luck to you and the baby. you are going to be a mommy no matter what way he comes out - congratulations!!

Joy, I'm in a similar predicament. My l/o is breech, has a fold in the amniotic sac, and there's scar tissue due to a previous D&C. To make matters worse, I've been in the hospital for over 7 weeks due to incompetent cer vix, cerclage, and testing positive for signs of pre-term labor. Not only have I had to abandon my birthing plans, buy my pregnancy plans have gone out the window as well. So after everything, I welcome the c-section as it means an end to all of the chaos. I haven't been given a date yet, but I've been told that it will be between the next 3-5 weeks depending upon what happens when the cerclage is removed. Good luck to you!!!

Thanks for the rea__surance ladies. I'm actually pretty relieved and am focusing on all the positives of the c section. I was just a little bummed that I wouldn't even experience ANY labor. Contractions haven't started or anything. But I know the benefits are good! Like I said, when it comes down to it I just want him here safe and to be able to enjoy him! And I just had my bloody show so I may just get a taste afterall, but not too much! Good luck to both of you and your babies!

Im sorry :( i know how you feel. I did not want a c-section at all. I was in labor for 25 hours before I started pushing, they were going to give me until 9PM to get to 10 cm, FINALLY at 8:40pm i hit my 10 and was able to do it vbirth. Just keep telling yoruself its best for the baby, and in the future you may be able to do a vbirth. Good luck, i hope it goes okay, just know theres alot of women that feel the same as you.

Joy.. seriously I think your doctor knows what s/he is talking about. Shoulder dystocia is a serious situation the can cause fetal demise. Its a very very scary thing to have a brand new baby with nerve damage. or a broken shoulder or a broken collar bone. HONESTLY.. yeah you might miss pushing a baby out of your crotch, but youre having a baby regardless of how the baby gets out. Youre going to be a hero no matter what was you look at it. Ive had 3 c sections and they have all been FANTASTIC experiences. For real. They were all really good surgeries.. and in the end I was holding this beautiful baby. Its all going to work out! Congratulations on your baby!! ~Kristin~
