I woke up last night to this horrible stomach pain. I am 33wks and 2days and i have been getting those braxton hicks for a couple months now. So I woke up my hubby and i called the Dr., he told me to come in so they can check me. so i went and they said my contractions were 5-6mins apart, so they gave me some shot to stop the contractions and that worked for 30mins and came back, so she gave me procardia and started me on IV and gave me stadol for the pain. She also checked me and said i was 1cm and 50%. im still getting contractions but not as bad as last night. i have a dr. appt tomorrow so we'll see my dr. says. has this happened to anyone else?

Do you know if the did a ffn (fetal fibronectin) test on you? It's a v____al swab that checks for a protien that can signal the breakdown of your membranes. If it comes back negative, you have an almost guarantee that you won't go in to labor in the next two weeks. I'd ask your doctor to do this test if they didn't already. I went in 2 weeks ago (28 weeks 5 days then) because I was having contractions 3 minutes apart. I got a shot of brethine (probably the same as you) which helped some but not completely. I was given procardia to take twice a day and two steriod shots in my hip for lung development. When I went in on monday I failed my nonstress test because my contractions came back at 3 minutes apart so they sent me to L&D again. They upped my dose to 3 times a day, they started again at 3 mins apart Friday so now I take it 4 times a day. As of Monday my cervix was 'a fingertip' which I'm pretty sure is normal. Do you have any children already? I've been on bedrest for two weeks so I think the best thing you can do is stay off your feet, drink lots of water, and try to relax. I have a Dr. appointment also so I'll see if I'm still on bedrest. I'm sure they have you do a NST which is just the hb and contraction monitor on your belly, and you press a b___ton everytime baby moves. More than likely I think they'll have you come in more frequently and do the NST's.

Do they think you have a UTI? I know that can cause you to have contractions. Sometimes you can dialate/efface early, especially once you have a baby already, and you can stay that way for weeks. Did they put you on bedrest or no?

This happened to my good friend Jessica at 24, 24 and 32 weeks. At 36 weeks they did an amnio to check the lungs and they weren't ready. the amnio sent her in to violent contractions and they ended up sending her right to L&D, they couldn't stop the contractions so they ended up delivering the next afternoon by c section. The baby is working on a week in the NICU, and doing really well. I think he will be allowed to go home in the next few days.

I'm glad your friend's baby is doing well but they should have given her betamethasone for the little guys lungs first! >:(

she had the steroid injection twice, once at 24 weeks and again at 32.

When preterm birth between 24 and 34 weeks of pregnancy (gestation) is expected within 7 days, betamethasone or dexamethasone is given to the mother in order to affect the fetus. Betamethasone is given in 2 injections, 24 hours apart. Dexamethasone is given every 12 hours for 4 doses.
If delivery does not occur within 7 days of treatment, the injections should not be repeated. Recent guidelines issued by the National Inst_tutes of Health discourage such repeat courses of treatment, based on concerns about fetal harm from repeat treatments
Might want to let her know that. I always heard the shots usually work pretty well. Hopefully the little guy gets to go home in a few days! 36 weeks is DEFFINATELY better than 24. Was she on meds for ptl? Did they work well for her? I'm pretty sure I'll be taken off mine around 35/36 weeks but I'll know more tomorrow.

I'm 35 wks and for the past week or more have been having periods almost every day where I have really severe BH 4-5 minutes apart for up to an hour, then they always slow down or stop. I mentioned it to my dr. and she just said if I wait a while and it doesn't slow down to go in to L&D, but it hasn't come to that point yet. I started having BH with this one at 15 weeks but now they're getting out of control, in frequency and strength. Sometimes they're as painful as real contractions at the beginning of labour (at least from what I remember of my last pregnancy). I don't know if I'm dilated yet or anything, but praying that all the contractions mean I'll be early, but not too early! Honestly, I can't imagine going through this every day for more that a few more weeks. It's like going into labour every day.

I technically think I failed my NST today but they didn't send me to labor and delivery because I told them they were just "wussy" contractions and I wasn't worried about them. They said as long as that's normal to me and not causing me to dialate that they can back off a little. I'd be in there everyday if I came in each time I had 4 or 5 contractions in an hour. He did say my cervix was a little softer than he liked and wanted to take an actual look at it and used the speculum with a light and these binocular things. He saw something he didn't like and said it was either my membranes or plug so sent me for an ultrasound. It was just more of the plug but that freaked me out! He said he must be seeing things but with everything else going on he wanted it checked. I'm having too many contractions for them to send me back to work so they just took me off till I'm 37 weeks. Well, I'd be 37 weeks May 10th but my daughter's 4th birthday is May 12th so they wrote me off till the 13th! I was told to just keep taking the procardia every 6 hours, resting, and to come in if I couldn't get the contractions to settle down.
