I have a cat who is about a year old and she is the best cat even until today :( I have been keeping my nursery door closed and the other day my kids were in there and left it open so I just shut it and didnt think anything of it until today I went in and all I could smell is cat pee!!! I was so upset. I looked like a crazy person on my hands and knees smelling the carpet to find out where she did it. I had a cat when my dd was born and as soon as she was born it started peeing on all of her things and I was never able to stop her and had to find her a new home. I dont want to have to do that so does anyone have any ideas????? I have an appt with the vet next week to get his ideas also.

Ohmygosh I HATE THAT! I would put some sort of cat repellent around the door. Also I've used a cleaner called "Kids and Pets" and it works pretty well for cat spray (we moved into a duplex once that had cat spray in the carpet-- nasty). Also on QVC, Don Aslett has a deodorizer that is amazing and you can get a concentrate to put in a carpet cleaner. That stuff is unbelievable. I am so sorry this started. Perhaps this cat will quit doing this and got it out of her system.

I have male des_xed cats that do the same thing, altho ive also kept nursery firmly shut to avoid this. What i also am going to do is rub/sleep with the blankets and clothes so my smell is all over them, rather than a strange smell as thats the reason they are spraying - to mark the scent that is unfamiliar. Perhaps try that?

Yeah, my kitty has been peeing places lately too. They say it's their way of showing you they love you; they mark the places they know are special or important to you so other animals stay away. So, your kitty is just trying to protect your baby and you...that's sweet. Frustrating though, I know. Yelling and "punishing" does no good, because they just don't understand. Perhaps try letting the cat spend time in the room with you...as long as doors are closed, cats always seem to think they need to get in! (At least, mine sure does!) With our cat, all we have to do is pick him up and carry him into the room. He'll look around for a little bit, totally content. And then he can go sniffing around, if he wants, but usually he just wants to look. Perhaps once baby is out your kitty will understand and become more comfortable with the new smells. Remember, cats absolutely hate change. It's really, really hard on them. So, your cat's just letting you know that it's a bit scared. Give lots of attention, and the behaviour might ease up. Good luck!

First I would call a carpet cleaning company that has a formula to neutralize the cat urine. After that all you can do is make sure the cat box is cleaned everyday. Sometimes once a cat pees once they will continue to pee. However, it sounds like your kitty was trapped in a room with nowhere else to go. Most well litter trained cats don't like to pee anywhere other than outside, or in the box. Give your kitty a chance, but watch her closely. You may be just fine.

She is fixed. And yes cat pee is the worst!! I'm just thankful she didnt do it on anything but the floor. Thanks for all of the suggestions!!
