I am overdue, and the dr will induce me on 10th. I really want to go into labor naturally. I was wondering what is the safest way to induce naturally? This is my 4th baby, and I was never overdue. I am really concerned about medical induction because it increase the risk to have a c section. I am terrified of it. I even considered about castor oil, but I think it is not safe, isn't it? I tried walking, s_x, eating fresh pineapple- none of them worked. I am 0 cm dilated. Thanks for your help!!

well you still have some time! How overdue are you? I was due on the 2nd and am still waiting! I'm 4cm and 90% effaced - and have been dilated for a month now. I don't think there is anything you can do to "make" labor happen unfortunately. :) Depending on how far along you are, you can push out your induction date. Personally, I wouldn't go for the castor oil because it will give you the runs big time. Oh, I was induced with my dd and from start to finish it was only 7.5 hours. I had no problems with it other than I couldn't push right since I couldn't feel (with the epidural).

The dr said he must induce me next week because the baby is measuring big. I will have to go with his decision because I do not want c section. I was due on June 3rd. I had my babies 2 to 3 weeks early, and they were around 7lbs, so this one may be 9lbs. I don't think I'll be able to deliever on my own if I didn't go with induction on tuesday.

I was past-due with my first as well and believe me, I tried EVERYTHING under the sun to get her to come out naturally. I hiked up a mountain for 3 hours 2 days before my induction date. The day before induction I walked 6 hours on a level hike. I ate eggplant parm, pineapple, spicy, salty, you name it like mad. Basically the answer is nothing will make the baby come out until s/he is ready. I even had my dct force a 1cm dilation, which, get this, closed up on its own. I went into my induction at 41 weeks and 5 days 0 cm dilated, not at all effaced (even though membranes stripped), and baby hadn't even dropped yet. And yes, I was absolutely sure of my dute date and such. The induction, IMO, was awful. I don't want to scare you so I won't go into it, but I was in labor for over 26 hours. However, in the long run, I have a beautiful healthy little girl. I am scared to death as well of this one needing to be induced, but there's absolutely nothing you (or I) can do about it. So just try to relax.. .and let Mother Nature take her course.

bummer - big baby - they are saying mine is gonna be big too - guess that's something to think about. I don't want a c-section either! do some squats!! :) A friend just went through a 20 hour labor - natural - and induced and she did just fine. I know there are lots of horror stories for every good one and you just can't guarantee what you'll get. Good luck with it! You never know, things can change overnight!

I am not sure what makes doctors afraid of delivering bigger babies - but I am 5 ft 2 in and I had a boy who weighed in at 9 pounds 4 oz and only had one little st_tch....I know that doctors are concerned that a big baby may get stuck....as far as over due I was induced 2 days before my due date because I had begun to show signs of pre-eclampsia I went in at midnight and had my son at 1020am - so..... I wish I could remember if I was dilated at all but I can't - no matter what happens - try to be relaxed - I wish you the best

Well, a lot of times the doctors don't even know the exact conception date, unless you do. So it's pretty much estimated. It all depends on the length of your cycle and when the egg got fertilized. So your due date isn't a sure date on which the baby is fully baked, I'm sure you already know this having had 3 children, lol. So what I'm trying to say is to just get the doctor to push your induction date off if you don't go into labor naturally by the 10th. Just don't show up, hahaha, say something came up. I'm terrified of being induced.
