I'm 38 weeks (Due Sept. 23), I had a Dr.'s appt today and my Dr. is sending me for an ultrasound because my stomach is measuring small. It measured 33cm today, and I belive she said it should be atleast 36cm. I can't help but to worry. The ultrasound will measure the actual baby and then she'll decide whether to induce next week or not. I'm sure it's not a huge deal but I'm still worried, any advice?

Hi Anxious, it is a scary thing to be told you need to go in for an ultrasound because they are too small...just a little hope for you...At 35 weeks my babe was measuring 30 weeks so they sent me straight over for an u/s and the babe was 6lbs 7oz at 35 weeks!!! He ended up coming at 39 weeks at a whopping 8lbs 10oz and 22 1/2 inches long. I am 5'10 and that is a major reason I am measuring small. But I do have to tell you I am a little nervous this time because I am currently 35 weeks and my doc told me at my last appt I will need another u/s because I am just measuring really small...I track it at home and compare to my last pregnancy and i am 4 inches smaller this time around so I am with you too...just a little nervous...even though I am sure everything is just fine...it is hard not to worry! Good luck!

Try not to worry too much...chances are that everything is just fine. How have you been measuring the rest of the pregnancy? I have been through the same thing. At 36 wks I was measuring 32 wks. It was strange because I had been measuring accurately my whole pregnancy. My doc sent me for a u/s for confirm baby was growing properly and everything was just fine. The tech told me it was because I was carrying a little wide and very low. She told me that fundal height measurements can be very inaccurate for women who carry this way. By my 37 wk checkup baby I measured 35cm, and at 38 wks measured 37cm. Being my 2nd pregnancy baby didn't drop right until labour. Ds2 was born weighing 7lbs 6oz & 21in and very healthy. No complications.

I agree no worries, they just do an ultrasound to double check the babe is growing right. I had preterm issues at 28 weeks I was also measuring 24, then at 30 weeks I was measuring 25. Now at 34 weeks I'm measuring 31 weeks. I'm short so there's no length reason for me. He is just about at 50% for size so just bundled in there all tight and cozy I guess. I also measured small with my dd right when I was in the 30's so it could just be the way we carry or the way our babies fit us?

Have you measured small all along? At 38 weeks, I'm a__suming you see your doctor weekly. What did you measure at 37 weeks? If you are all the sudden small, I wouldn't worry too much. I was also told I was measuring small at a doctors appt. and was worried because I was on a heart medicine that can cause premature growth, but it turns out the new doctor measured differently. My son is 7 weeks and was born at 8lbs 8 oz

I am also measuring about two weeks behind...but i am also six feet tall. My fundal is WAY up under my rib cage and when i am measured, it is never done right! lol SO to say the least i am not too worried! When a doctor measures your fundal height it is never an exact science, That is what an ultra sound is for. I am positive everything is ok and the ultra sound will confirm that! Good luck!!
