I'm a first timer so this may be a dumb question--But I'm getting ready to pack my hospital bag and one of the things on the list is a nursing bra. The problem is I have no idea what size to buy. Should I just wait until after my milk comes in for this purchase or is there a good rule of thumb to go by?
On a side note--there is also nothing attractive out there in the way of a button down gown. I think I would rather opt for the freebie at the hospital vs what's available at the store.

They have awesome nursing gowns on expressiva dot com. As far as nursing bras, what I found is that you need to go to the store first and get a baseline of where to start. I am wearing a 38DD regular bra but when I went for nursing bras I need a 38F and my milk hasn't come in yet so it can be quite surprising. I would go to a store first and find one you like and then get one a size up from what fits now. Once your milk comes in but you're not engorged anymore I'd buy another couple but until then don't spend a lot of money on them because you may end up just wasting your money on stuff that's the wrong size. Motherhood has ugly bras but they are very affordable. Also there are some flexible sizing available on some bras that will expand when you need them to but still fit when you're not engorged. Medela makes several bras like that. Good luck!

I bought a few nursing bras right before I had my dd - in the size that fit. You don't grow bigger immediately after delivery, it can take a couple of days for your milk to really come in. I found that I didn't grow THAT much and could still wear the same size bra I had bought. Good rule of thumb, get one a size bigger...or get the kind that are like sports bras. Just make sure that wherever you buy them you can return them if they are too big/small. Not sure what everyone's return policies are. I got several at Target last time but I can't find them there anymore. I loved them - very comfortable and different styles. As for a gown- just use the hospital one. You're not there long enough and you can just cover up in a robe.
