Palpitations Heavy Heartbeat

May seem wierd, but sometimes when I lay down at night my heartbeat seems heavy, I can kind of hear it in my outbreath (if that makes sense) - its almost like my heart is beating my my throat. There are no other symptoms except I get out of eath more now which I know isnt surprising at 39 weeks. Has anyone else had these symptoms..? My midwife said sometimes you can get "palpitations", but Ive had palpitations before in the past and they felt different - more like flutters or missed beats.

Yeah I have palpitations and also what you're talking about. Sometimes I can see my heartbeat when I look at my stomach. They say that the heart of a pregnant woman works as hard when she's doing nothing and sitting as a non-pregnant woman's works when she walks. We have so much more blood to circulate our hearts can get bogged down a bit. It is normal. I can hear it in my throat, too, and sometimes I can just feel my whole body reverberating with the beats. You're almost there, though, you lucky duck!

Thanks so much for the reply it was rea__suring ... I guess Im getting anxious now the birth is so close... I know its going to be the biggest physical effort of my life to get the baby out so my heart symptoms were worrying me a little.

Yeah I know-- sometimes I wonder how I'll have the energy to push this little girl out! I'm sure our adrenaline will kick in with our instincts and we'll do great! If you're still worried though I'd mention it again to your midwife and make sure she isn't concerned-- you don't want any surprises! :)
