Pulled Muscle Sore Belly

I don't really know how to t_tle this question because I'm not sure what is wrong...is it possible to pull a muscle in the upper part of your belly? I'm 30 weeks and have a rough time of it sleeping. I kind of shift from right side to back to left side to back and just all over the place. I think last night or the night before sometime I might have pulled a muscle in my belly? When I sit or lie it is fine but as soon as I stand up I have a painful, sore spot on my belly above my belly button and to the left about 3 inches up or so. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but any pain worries me. It feels sort of like when I stand something is being painfully stretched or sore in that spot only. It's very weird. This is my first so I know it could just be my belly growing, but most pains I've had with that are down low where ligament pains are. Just wondering because I DON'T want to call the dr's office again today.....I've been doing that a LOT :(

STEF - I think that to be normal but at least if you call your doctor they will have an answer right away I wish I had experienced that but I haven't but call your doctor .....they love you! LOL

I had the same thing a couple of time, I attributed it to my little one pushing on my stomach and stretching my muscles. Come to find out I had a bladder infection/UTI, my doctor said it could cause some soreness on your stomach. I still think that it was from my baby pushing on my stomach because it happens more as you get bigger. I would ask your doctor about it when you see them next.

hey stef! i had this too and it hurt really bad and freaked me out, it happened a couple of times and it happened whenever my tummy (Anjelica..hehe) had a growth spurt and I think its the stretching of the muscle/skin. just trust your instincts, there are a lot of aches pains and general wierdness the third trimester. if you feel something is wrong, dont hesitate to get it checked though at the same time, after a certain amount of weeks you can go straight to L&D usually and they can do a check for all thats going on...i loved when i got to that stage because they were super nice and no waiting room!!! :-) Good luck with everything sweetie...youre almost there

Stef, sounds like round ligament pain to me. You have ligaments located near the sides at the height you are describing. If you haven't added some pillows to your sleeping arrangement, now would be a good time to do so. I sleep on top of one that sits between my hips and my ribs where my waist goes in so it supports my back and props up the belly. I also use my knee pillow to tuck under the belly, too, so thats just extra support. That should help, and if you are already doing something like that, you may need to add another pillow or change their arrangement slightly now that you're showing more.

I agree with ChattyKathy. Sounds like round ligament pains. They feel different in later pregnancy than they do in early pregnancy. As the baby grows, and the uterus gets larger, the round ligaments (which attach at the top of the uterus and in the groin) stretch further and further up, and so you feel the pain further up as things move up more. Keep a pillow or two between your legs to help support some of the weight at night, and try wearing a maternity support belt during the day. It really does help quite a bit with the ligament pains. =) I got one from motherhood maternity for $16 that isn't overly bulky and works great under clothing without being noticeable - and it takes a lot of the stress off of those ligaments AND takes some of the weight bearing off of the lower back too, so double bonus there =). HTH!

Thank you girls! Yep, I think it was a growth spurt or something because a) it went away and b) I'm bigger suddenly, LOL!!! :) I have been sleeping with a huge wraparound pregnancy pillow since about 16 weeks but now I added a wedge and 1-2 other pillows and finally got comfy again. I went through about 2 weeks where I could NOT get comfortable for the life of me in bed. I'm sure it will be like this off and on for the rest of the pregnancy, but it's fine with me as long as I know baby girl is healthy and growing!

I had that a lot too when I was pregnant with Phoenix (Got another one due in Jan. now ;) ) It was a royal pain! Anytime I brought it up to my doctor she'd attribute it to round ligament pain. It was a nightmare trying to get to sleep in my third trimester, that and back pain were both nuisances. It it good to get it checked out of course but when I was checked everything was fine. I did have a uti in my sixteenth week but I never felt pain with it. Was just given antibiotics.

Pregnancy pillows are the best aren't they? Glad to also hear your pain has subsided. If it comes back you'll likely know what it is now anyway :)
