Hi Kathy. This is what i needed but didnt bring i had to get DH to get this for me while i was in the hospital. Nipple cream, cotton tips to clean around the babys umbilical cord and a ketchup squirty bottle to squirt water "down there" when you pee as it stings quite a bit especially if you have to have lots of st_tches or an episiotomy like i did. Also i wore black undies and here's a tip i use to wear two maternity pads one towards the front and one towards the back so they overlapped to have a double layer in the middle - extra padding where i needed it most!

ella - they didn't give you your own squirt bottle while you were there? My hospital gave me the tucks, bottle, dermaplast spray and everything I needed to take care of things down there- and I got to take it all home. I didn't know they still had you clean the umbilical cord either. They told me it's better to just let it heal on it's own - funny how every hospital/doctor has something different!

And don't forget a charger for you cell phone if you bring one. :) Nothing worse than having the battery die. Also, some hospitals have free wireless and you can take your laptop and email people the big news or pictures. I really enjoyed having mine with me - and someone mentioned dvds....there's nothing worse than being up all night with nothing to watch. Even something in the background is nice to have.

Chapstick chapstick chapstick!! And gum. All I got from the hospital was a cup for water, a pacifier for the baby, and a diaper bag. Period. Make sure also that you're prepared to stay longer than anticipated in case of an emergency c-section. I had an emergency c-section at 40 weeks 5 days (baby had heartrate of 270) and I was totally unprepared since I planned on giving birth at a birthing center where mothers go home 8 hours after birth. Surprise surprise! So be prepared for the worst.

Our hospital gave us most stuff for baby. All I really needed was a coming home outfit for her. I wish I had brought my boppy. That would've helped. I did bring a robe and stuff for me but never used it. I had a c-section so I wasn't able to get out of bed for the first couple days.

I WAY overpacked and I was having a c-section so I was there for 3 days. All I really needed was an outfit to go home in, some socks, a few pairs of pj pants, toiletries of course, and some lansinoh cream. One thing I didn't think of that my sister mentioned is a boppy.

With my previous 3 hospitals stay i have to stay the full 5 days because of medical condition, dr said to expect the same this time as well. I live in Sydney Australia and it will be winter in july when bub is due so i will be packing about 5 winter pj's. i well also prepack and leave at home extra 3 pjs for my hubby to bring in later. He also bring my dirty clothes home to wash and bring me fresh clothes during my stays. In australia you will see hardly anyone wear hospital gowns because it always show your b___t! plus its heaps more comfortable wearing my own clothes, and thats what you definitely need during your first few painful days. i am not afraid of the mess because it all wash right off, thats why its handy to prepack and leave at home pj / pants i want hubby to bring in for me cos i know i change quiet a few pants the first few days. right now in my hospitalbag i have also packed 12 undies, those are absolute 'must have' for me because they are made out of 100% nylon! i love it and always wear it when i have my periods because they wash out so easily! in hot or cold water. with my 1st time stay in hospital when i had my 1st son i didnt know i pack 100% cotton undies, and it got stain and i couldnt wash it out so they went into the bin. i got my 100% nylon undies from asian fashion store and they are very light and breathable, feel like you are wearing nothing. i also packed 3 packs for maternity pads. 1 towel for my hair. i use hospital towel for my body cos i dont like getting the mess on my towel. toiletries. enema - i am so scare of the first go at no.2 after having st_tches down there. enema makes it more easier for the firstf ew days, plus nurse here check if you go then they will let you get discharge. thick warm socks. a box of b___st pads. medela b___st pump. 1bpa free bottle. 6 nursing bras, slippers, 1 pair of going home clothes, a night robe, 1 jacket, a book (im a book worm!), but the last 2 times i never got to read cos of constant visitors and due to exhaustion. my moblie phone, money- preferably coins. For labor i going to bring a hot water bottle, also handy after labor when you still have a little bit of contraction pains and a small hand held mirror to see bub entering the world! For baby im only going to pack 1 going home outfit, dummys, blanket to wrap to go home. during hospital stay the nurse always use their blankets and gown, easier cos nappies change plus they always monitoring baby - sick of taking his clothes off every few hrs for them to check. Here in australia hospital give us little sample of baby shampoo to use for baby, wipes. they do give out formula and nappies but they encourage (ha__sle!) you to bring your own. ok i think thats it for now.

I went into early labor twice and am due for august and the 3 things you might want to not forget is chapstick..something to hold your hair back and good fitting undies to hold those jumbo pads in place. I really wouldnt recommend bring robes and such. and magazines, dvds, seriously go unnoticed due to the excitment of the new little one.
