When Your Water Breaks

Hi. I'm just about 38 weeks pregnant with my first. At about 2am this morning I got up to go to the bathroom and when I bent down to pull up my sweat pants I felt a "pop" down low right near my cervix. Then as i lifted up I could feel the baby's head hit my cervix. Sort of like she was floating up higher and then bottomed out and hit my cervix. I thought for sure my water had broken, but nothing came out, not even a trickle. Since then it's happened 3 more times but still no water. Every time I practically hold my breath expecting that my water has broken but nothing. So, has anyone had this experience before their water has broken? Or has anyone had this as a common part of pregnancy? And would anyone be willing to share what happened when your water broke?

I had my water break with both my dd and my ds. I was just a trickler tho, no big gushes. If you haven't even noticed an increase in a different sort of discharge then I wouldn't think its your water. It could be baby's head bobbing in and out of being engaged? Either way good luck!

Thanks so much for that. When I noticed there was not leakage at all, I figured it wasn't my water, but wondered if it was maybe leading up to my water breaking. thanks for sharing Britt_m.

Wow Tonigirl....I have never heard of that happening....thats weird! I couldnt even begin to think of what that may be. I know that with my second dd I was walking up the driveway when my water broke, and it felt like I had to pee really badly and it was trickling and then once I hit the toilet it gushed....but I guess everyone is different, I would ask your doctor. I as well am just about 38 weeks (will be on wednesday) and have noticed a larger amount of discharge like britt_m had talked about in her post, but again thats just us getting ready to deliver these babies I guess! My doctor says until I feel a gush of water not to be concerned unless theres a change in the babies movements! Good Luck and I hope you find out whats going on! We are just about done!

Thanks susan...I did talk to my doctor and she wasn't concerned. She said that many women do feel a popping sensation before their water breaks but obviously that wasn't what happened to me. She said it could have just been the baby preparing to engage. Who knows... But you're right our bodies are getting VERY ready to have these babies...hopefully sooner rather than later! Good luck to you too!

hi tonigirl when my waters broke with my first it was a gush and there was no mistaken it i guess the same as what britt m says that your baby is bobbing aroung in there

When my water broke was in labor already. The contractions were totally manageable, i was cleaning, showered, etc. Then I had a contraction that was a bit more intense, 3 min later another same more intense. Then it felt like it does kinda when you get a slight gush when you have your period. Kinda like like a clot (sorry to be so graphic). It did gush but it was not a bunch of fluid, nothing a heavy day maxi couldn't handle on the trip to the hospital. I think the pop you felt might be your cervix becoming effaced. Or the head engaging. GOOD LUCK sounds like you'll go soon!!

Ladies...thank you so much! I appreciate all the details you gave. I did find out the my cervix has started effacing, so that very well could have been what the pop was...either that or the baby bobbing or both. It's good to know how each woman experiences this becuase then I know that my experience may be very unique. I HOPE i go soon! Thanks again girls!!!
