Hello everyone! :) I am 38 weeks and 4 days prego and yesterday i went for my appt, and the doctor stripped my membranes. i was 1 cm and 50% effaced. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience, or knows what I should expect or has any helpful advice to speed things along?? Thank you!

Hey threepinkribbons! I'm 38 weeks also. I'm 2 cm, not sure about how much I'm effaced. I don't really know anything about stripping membranes. This is my first child, but I was wondering if it hurt much when they did it? I have an appointment on Thursday and that's been on the back of my mind. I'm nervous because I've heard it can be rather "uncomfortable" which is usually another word painful. When are you due? I'm due on the 26th

hello Samantha! (thats going to be my baby's name. ) :) I have read alot that most everyone has been really uncomfortable or in pain during the procedure, however when I had it done yesterday I didnt even realize she had done anything different than my typical exam. It didnt hurt at all, so I guess I am lucky. :) But... I think it is always worth the try even if it is a little uncomfortable... if you are ready to get that baby out you'll probably try anything! I know I have! :) Im due on the 25th.

Wow our babies are due a day apart! I wonder who will have it first? lol My daughter's name is going to be Lilah. That's what I had read also, that it's really uncomfortable for most women, but I guess it's different for everybody. I'm ready to get this girl out! I've been walking alot and sitting on my exercise ball for at least at hour a day. It usually causes alot of cramping and a few contractions so I'm hoping it'll eventually (very soon) lead to something more. I'm hoping when I go in on Thursday that the doctor will strip my membranes or discuss a possible induction. My baby is small so they said they definately wouldn't let her go all the way to my due date so that's why I'm thinking they'll say something good at this appointment.

That is sooo funny. Lilah was my second choice for this baby! I have tried everything too... to no avail. In fact, I think she is rebelling! And I have all these symptoms... lost the plug on the 4th... contractions.... cramping... but nothing that leads to anything. It is so frustrating. Oh well... God has His timing and I guess I will just have to deal with it. I would ask for a "real" induction, but I am going VBAC so if they try any meds for induction it is an auto c-section for me. So ... hopefully this will work!

Yeah, I lost my plug too. Seems like we're pretty much in the same boat! You should keep posting on here and keep each other updated on how our pregnancies are going. Good luck with everything! Hopefully now that your membranes stripped things will start progressing for you.

When you have your membranes stripped you may have a little bit of spotting. This is supposed to help put you in labor within 24-48 hours if your body is ready. I had mine done twice at appts. and at the hospital when when I went in to be induced. The second one did the trick as I was in labor the next morning when I went to the hospital.

I had a sweep done at 40 weeks and that's what put me into labor. GL

With my first I had my membranes swept and then my water broke two days later. I was on my feet the whole time working in between. I think the stripping of the membranes definitely help start the process. Good Luck!
