Precious - June 19

um whats bile?

ceecee_fields - June 19

LOL! That's funny.

stefkay - June 19

Here is a definition/description: Bile plays a vital role in the digestion of fats and is present in most mammals. It is formed in the liver, where it is principally composed of cholesterol, lecithin, pigments, and salts. Most of the salts in this liquid are reabsorbed back into the body, and are necessary electrolytes. When people get severe stomach flus for instance, they may begin to vomit a yellow substance once their stomachs are empty that is principally made up of this fluid. This means electrolytes are being lost rapidly, and people may require electrolyte fluids to restore a healthy balance and prevent dehydration. While bile is made in the liver, between meals it is stored in the gallbladder. In humans, when we eat, it is excreted into the duodenum, helping to break down fats. In some ways you can compare bile to a detergent, since it has emulsification properties. Emulsification binds two substances together. For instance, when you wash dishes, the soap you use binds to fats and grease, helping you to remove both soap and the grease. Bile emulsifies with fats so that these can be absorbed by the small intestine. This necessary substance also allows people to absorb vitamins that are considered fat soluble, like vitamins D, E, and A. Without it we wouldn’t be able to absorb the important vitamins our body needs. You won’t find this liquid simply acting in the liver, gallbladder and duodenum. When food is partially digested, by the stomach, it gets released into the intestine in a form called chyme. The gallbladder then releases greatly concentrated bile to process, digest and synthesize chyme to complete the digestive process, sorting the good from the bad, and reabsorbing things like fats, salts and vitamins. Occasionally bile can work against the body instead of for it. For instance, the high cholesterol content may form gallstones in the gall bladder, a painful condition that sometimes necessitates gallbladder removal. When people do need to have their gallbladder removed they may have trouble synthesizing and digesting fats thereafter, because the pathways of bile ducts from liver to gallbladder are essentially useless.

anyways, you could be having gallbladder problems which can happen more easily in pregnancy I've been told. That would mean you need the dr. to know about it!

Precious - June 19

ok i got it.. i got my gallbladder removed 3 yrs ago. I think it must of been something i ate. Ive been fine but i also think its the acid reflex thats taking a role. Thanks Stef

stefkay - June 19

LOL, ok then obviously NOT your gallbladder :) Yeah, just take care of yourself and drink plenty of water and eat some small meals if you can. Sounds like you might have gotten that dreaded 3rd trimester nausea that some get back at the end :(

sashasmama - June 19

PRECIOUS, I've been suffering with acid reflux and sour stomache forever! Until I finally got some Zantac -- it's doing wonders (I got the generic kind from Wal-Mart), I can finally sleep at least a little bit and eat later than 6 p.m. STEF, I know what you mean about the dr. counting weird. My dr. counts a day behind too, I was 36 weeks exactly (by my calculations) and asked if they were going to do a Strep test, but the nurse goes "probably next week, we usually do it when you're 36 weeks" and I was like "umm, but I am 36 weeks" and she goes "it says on here you're 35 weeks 6 days", I was just like WTFFFF???? It's only one day!!!! Even if my calculations are off. Crazy hormones, so I demanded they do it then...I mean one day doesn't make that big of a difference people!!!

stefkay - June 19

Elena, that sounds EXACTLY like what my dr. is doing. I don't even want to sit and try to correct her as I'm sure that would just annoy her. i don't want to have to wait a whole week for an u/s though because of one freakin day!!!! Oh well....not much I can do. TINA, where are you at? You usually post more during the day so I'm kind of worried! I'd figure you went back to the hospital, but i thought I'd get a text.....hope all is ok! KENDRA, I wish I could have some advice to help you but I'm at a loss :( I'm so sorry that you're feeling like this! I don't have a clue what it could be?

samantha_2629 - June 19

Hey ladies. I'm about to hit 35 weeks and these past few days have just been horrible :( When I stand up it feels like I'm carrying a ton in my stomach. It's really painful. Especially when I have to pee...even though I just went, it hurts so bad! Like I haven't gone in hours or something. And everytime I'm laying in bed and I try to adjust myself it feels like my pelvis...cracks or something! I guess it's popping but it feels like a cracking. I don't know. My heart burn and acid reflux are just horrible with everything I eat. :( I'm just feeling horrible right now :( :( :( I wish it was 5 weeks later already

KathyJ - June 20

I am 35weeks 4days along and I woke up this morning to use the restroom and as soon as I got up I started have these sharp pains in both sides that come and go every 15mins is this something I should be worried about? This is my second baby but with my first I did not know I was in labor did not feel any contractions till I got to the Hospital...What should I do?

stefkay - June 20

Hi kathy, I wish I could help more, but I'm not sure....labor is different for everyone and even at that this is my first so I have no idea what it's going to feel like, lol :-S I think you should probably call your doctor or labor & delivery just in case and talk to a nurse. I know I can call my l&d anytime and they put me right through to a nurse. It is even faster then calling my dr's office!

stefkay - June 20

Where is everyone? Helllooooooo? It's kinda slow in here today. I'm heading to my appt. soon so I'll just check in again later.

luckymenm23 - June 20

Morning ladies... so i went to the doctors this morning. Still measuring a week ahead but no biggy. I am not dialated or anything but he told me Hillary you even though your not dialated now doesnt mean you couldnt go into labor tonight. He said he has had alot of patients come in and not be dialated at all but still give labor that same night so im cool with that i guess :) I have not dropped all the way but he also said usually women that have already had babies drop down at the last minute or while in labor.. So who ever is not dialated or anything dont get your hopes down :)
