I posted this on the labor thread, but figured I'd post here to to see what you girls think too: Hi ladies! Just a little curious about epidurals. I've heard stories of both awesome experiences & nightmares w/ them. I am 28yrs. old & due in Oct. This is my 2nd baby. I had ds 9yrs. ago at 19yrs. old. I chose not to get the epi then. Now that I'm almost 10yrs. older w/ baby girl, I am starting to wonder if my body will be able to handle the labor like it did back then & leaning towards possibly getting the epi this time around, but still very wary of them. Please give me some opinions & advice! I'd like to hear both good experiences & bad to help me make a decision. Thank-you all so much.

JNFR-I had an awesome experience with an epidural. I had back labor and was able to handle the first 10 hrs without it but then my progress stalled because I could not relax at all. Anyways, I think it depends on your body and your anethesiologist. I had an awesome one and I barely felt the needle, he constantly checked on me and he shut it off the second my son was born and within and hour of the birth I was up and walking. I didnt feel drugged up or drowsy and he was a very big baby that tore me pretty bad so I was grateful for the epidural at that point too. The only problem I had (which they had warned me of when they put it in) was I had a severe drop in blood pressure but they gave me some medicine to counteract it and I was fine. I did not want an epidural but did not regret getting it at all. This time Im not planning on having one again but Im not afraid of it at all if I do feel like I need one.

JNFR I also had a good experience with the epi. My water broke at 37 weeks and I didn't progress fast enough so they gave me pitocin. Holy c___p that kicked in and made things terrible. DH just got done with 24 hour duty with no sleep and was pa__sed out and I couldn't get much of a breath to call him, so I beeped them for the epi. It was pretty uncomfortable when they were putting it in but it didn't hurt. I could still feel the contractions and eventually they started hurting and all I had to do was push this b___ton for an extra boost, I had asked for a very low dose just to knock the edge off. I progressed fine and delivered fine (cord was around her neck tho.) I did have the after effect where my legs were completely numb still the next day, then my knee was still pretty numb when I left the hospital. But that pitocin really kicks b___t hard! If I don't get it this time, then I'm going to try to make it to the "point of no return!!"

I am sorry Patience- I certainly do not want to pry. I totally understand that! You actually almost explained my EXACT experience- back labor, held out as long as I could, got the epi( I am going to go for no epi this time but the FIRST sign of back labor and I may be begging!) was in total relief, BP dropped to fast 2 times but the got it right back up, had 4th degree lacerations so it was awesome to not have felt it!!

So, I had my appt. today & got some good news & some news I don't know what to think of yet. I asked when I would be able to be put out of work & on disability & dr. said when do you want to go out, I told her a.s.a.p. So, she asked what day I want to be my last day at work & I told her Monday- so Monday it is! Not so good news- I am 31 weeks & 2 days today & measuring at 36 weeks. (belly size is supposed to corrospond w/ weeks in centimeters) They think she is getting too big & have scheduled me for an ultra sound on Tuesday to determine how big she actually is. They also think she is breech & we had to discuss the options of manual inversion & c-section. The word c-section scares me!!! Dr. said I have a week or two for her to turn still, but after that if nothing happens I will most likely wind up being scheduled for a c-section. So, I guess I'll have a better understanding of everything after the ultra sound on Tues., but at least I don't have to worry about work anymore.

Hey Mrs. Sandy, both of my other two kids were over 9lbs and both were c-sections. I'm actually trying for a vbac this time with a midwife. I know alot of people will think I"m crazy! But delivering naturally is always better than having major surgery. If you had your last one v____ally I don't understand (even if it was a hard birth) why they would want you to have surgery this time. Your body has already laboured and delivered and from what I understand the 2nd time is usually easier than the first. My midwives also are huge supporters of 'active' birth, including squatting and such to deliver, which apparently can make a huge difference, as opposed to laying in bed to deliver. What do you think you want to do?

JNFR614 - August 17

Hi everyone! Angel- are you feeling any better? I saw your post on the labor thread. Also, was baby not in a good position to find out the s_x at your 20 week ultrasound? Keep us posted! Mari- how did the yard sale go? I don't know how you are all dealing, but I'm so ready for this pregnancy to be over. Her movements are hurting me soooo much! I think it has alot to do w/ positioning- breech still. Tomorrow is my last day at work- I'm so excited!!! Oh, results from the scale at the dr...... not good!!!! I'm up 37 lbs. now- holy moly! Went from 140 to 177. It's really weird though, w/ my son my final weight was 180lbs. at delivery & according to my friends & family they say I look smaller this time around. I don't understand it. I hope I don't gain too much more! It's not like I am eating over board or anything-I don't have any room to put it, I had 1 slice of pizza the other night & was completely full! Before being prego I could easily put down 3. Anyway, hope you all are enjoying the weekend.

angelhdfd - August 17

nope, not feelin any better.. it hurts my inner thighs so bad to even walk!!! and yup the 20 week ultrasound the baby wasnt in a good position...

JNFR614 - August 18

LAST DAY OF WORK TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOO-HOO!!!!!!!! I'M GOING FOR MY ULTRA SOUND TOMORROW- WISH ME LUCK.

CatsMommy - August 18

Jennifer - How awesome! I know you're super excited to be finally done with work! My sale went pretty good... didn't sell as much as I thought I would sell, but I really wasn't in it for the money - I just wanted to get rid of as much stuff as I could and make room in our bas____nt. I kept all my girl clothes - from 0months to 4T!! I kept them just in case I was having another girl, but since this one is a boy, he'd look pretty silly in pink! I'm soooooooooooooooooo tired and so done with this pregnancy. I can't sleep. I'm so sleep deprived and constipated! Jen - I've seen your pics and you really look fantastic! You and Liz are tall so the weight is distributed evenly on your bodies - I'm so short... just barely 5'4" so any weight I gain goes straight to my thighs and b___t! They say with girls you gain more than boys... with my daughter, I gained a total of 55lbs....hahaha, I looked like a roly poly! I'm up 28 so far with this one and I hope I only end up gaining a total of 7 more. I'm trying to stay under 35 pounds total gain. Ladies... I just want to be sure castor oil is safe for constipation. I heard that makes you go into labor and I don't want that!

ejmeskan - August 18

Mari- I don't know about the Castor Oil thing...I would talk to your doc first- I heard the same about the going into labor! Nice work on the garage sale. Well I am officially a beast...Yuck...I have thunder thighs, they are rubbing together, all ripply and gross! I actually am getting love handles...WHILE PREGNANT?!??! My a$$ is the size of TX!!! SO I am pretty sure I am up more than my 10-12lbs...my clothes just don't fit right. Ooh and that good night of sleep- that was a good ONE night! :) ha! Last complaint...I am pretty sure this babe is breech but at the same time I feel like there is a head about to pop out of my crotch!! Jacob was so high when I carried him that no LIE I had to push 2 hours just to get him to drop and then another 2 hours to get him to come out...this one is SO low! Funny how it works! I want a boy but I will be SOOOO surprised if this one comes out as a boy!!! I am pretty convinced there is a sweet baby girl in there! Which is great too! :) Congrats on the last day Jen!!!! Why do they have to make a decision within a week on a C or a manual attempt? Is that because you are measuring 36 weeks? I know my sis's babe didn't turn head down until 37 weeks (the night before they were going to try the inversion)

Saird - August 18

Hey girls, for anyone boardiing the constipation wagon (as I have been) here's what's working for me: 1 tsp of flax oil mixed in with a little juice and a tsp of vit c powder mixed with water every night before bed. Working like a charm. I am sooo much happier!

Patience2008 - August 18

Hey everyone. I guess Im nesting. We are stuck in this little house and I am trying to figure out where to put things. I got out everything that I need and it will work for the first 6 months I think. After that we'll see! We are still waiting for new on post housing and they said they think they will have something in about 4 weeks. Im due in 6. Anyways, I also packed my hospital bag as much as I could. Im just so tired but cant stop cleaning and organizing. Its like Im driven. Who else is at this point? EJ, I hear you with the legs thing. They look horrible and Ive kept up my exercise! I just cant wait for him to be here. Hope you all are doing well.
