My son has eaten the rice from a roll and he loves the wasabi but can't imagine he'd be able to eat through the seaweed wrapping. Also I've been hesitant to give him shrimp or sashimi because of the bacteria.

To be on the safe side i wouldnt give him any raw fish, but maybe a california roll since it just has cooked crab meat in it.
Lchan- your baby likes wasabi?!?! Isnt it too spicy for him?!?!?! Its almost too spicy for me : )

They shouldn't have raw meat, or under cooked meat.

I am sure I'll be shot for this: I am lebanese and a dish we eat is raw lamb and beef (you get it from a butcher, not just run of the mill meat) I have been eatting since I was about 6 months and my DD has been eatting since about 10 months. Not something we eat everyday, at holidays weddings funerals thats kinda thing. My Ped is also of the thought that she can eat what she wants and I have no restrictions from her of what to feed her. She loves PB&J already. Just be super carefull and don't let em chow down 8 peices....that's my thought....

JessB - Yes, he does like it. My dh dips his fork in the wasabi and then picks up a few grains of rice and ds gobbles it up and looks for more. My dh loves spicy food and already my son is showing a preference for it. I can't eat spicy food so he definitely doesn't get this from me. :)

I don't see why not. We are inuit and a tradition food in our culture is raw caribou and fish, including whale. ds has ate all of these things before 9 months and LOVES them!! He goes crazy for the caribou mostly, and eats it with soya sauce! I know that all these people say don't eat raw mean, and this may cause a debate, but think about all these cultures that have ate like this for centuries! We were raised on it, and our parents.....now our children. Calling a japanese restaraunt is a good idea!

I'm really not trying to be rude, but this conversation is a bit silly. What babies like has nothing to do with what is and isn't ok to give them. Now noone is saying that all raw fish is toxic. But raw meat and fish does carry a higher probability of bacteria. Now if thats the risk you are willing to take with your child, then its your decision. But I don't understand how a restaurant will be able to make it for you.

Miriam, I don't think that calling the conversation silly is adding anything productive to the topic. And not being very fair. No question is silly. The reason for calling a restaraunt is that they would be able to give their expert opinion on sushi! Nothing more, nothing less. Someone who makes sushi, and sells it, deals with it every day would have a better idea of weather or not it would be appropriate for a 1 year old than most of us here. Sometimes conversations veer away from their original topic and that is ok too. I hope you all enjoy the upcoming weekend. And Question, let us know what the restaraunt says about sushi and babies!! I'd love to know!

No I didn't call the question silly. Its just that it seems like people are equating what babies like to what babies should be eating. And that didn't seem logical to me. I also think that if you are going to call anyone, a doctor seems like a better option.

silly or not - I lived in Japan for 4 years and they feed their babies sushi... I am allergic to many types of fish so that would be out of the question for me.
