Hi everyone!
(Sorry a little long.. :-) )
Just a couple of questions because I have read some conflicting information.
I am currently pregnant with twins. When they did an ultrasound at 10 weeks they said they couldn't see a membrane between them and acted like it was a big deal. Then when I spoke to another doctor, he said that there was no cause to worry at this time. Is this true? From what I see, some rticles say the membrane is easier to see early on and others say harder. Now I am *confused*
Second question is:
Because they couldn't see the membrane, the doctor and u/s woman told me that it meant they were identical for sure. Now I am not so sure... if there was thin membrane they couldn't see, would this mean they might be fraternal? I realize this isn't a big deal, however, I would just like to know for fun :-)
Last question:
I had a partial placenta abrutio with my last pregnancy. I have read that with this condition there is a 17-25% chance of this happening again, however with twins the rates go up 3x as high. Does this mean I will prob have this again? and if so, how dangerous is it? With my son, we didn't know until my water broke, so I never really found out much from the doctor. He was born va___ally with no real problems (thank god!)
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Okay, from being on twins boards for several years and doing a lot of research, I have read that it can be very hard to see if there is a separating membrane before 12 weeks. The later in pregnancy, the easier to see since the sac would be growing. If the babies are in the same sac, they are identical. Fraternal and identical twins can be in separate sacs with separate placentas but only identicals can share a sac and or placenta. Some cases, fraternal twins will have a placenta that fuses together to appear as one but that isn't too common. I am not sure about the placenta abruption. I know that is can happen but a lot of times, bed rest will help it heal back up. Every pregnancy is different so I have no idea if it will happen to you and your twins. It is just going to have to be something that will be watched by your DR and trust me, you will have plenty more u/s that you did with your twins. Hope this helps.
