Anyone ever had a first ultrasound with two gestational sacs but only one looks like it has a yolk sac and fetal pole. Then go back weeks later and find two babies?? Please help!!

Yes, that can happen. It all depends on how far a long you where when you had your ultrasound.

One of the sacs measured 5 wks 6 days and the other 5 wks 5 days. The one that was5 wks 6 days is the one that we saw a yolk sac and fetal pole.

I am so glad that you asked this question too. I posted the other day (help me understand my ultrasound). From all of the research that I did, it is not uncommon to not be able to visualize both fetuses until 8 weeks or so. Also, a vanishing twin tends to develop and the disipate. One twin (unless identical) typically develops before the other, and if fraternal, there is sometimes the delay of one-one and a half weeks between the ages of the fetuses. Different due dates but born on the same day. Odd, but it all depends on individual ovulation cycles.

I too have the same question, I had my first ultrasound at 5 1/2 weeks and they also saw two gestational sacs but only one had the yolk sac & fetal pole. My next US isn't until June 6 and I am very nervous.

to confused, it may have been to early for you to see both fetal poles. hang in there everything will be fine.
