BIG QUESTION

Posting here until my issue is resolved. WHAT is the normal procedure for an Ultrasound? Does the technician move the doppler? or whatever it is. UP and DOWN..SIDE to SIDE..BACK to FRONT..and ALL AROUND? Regardless of what they see the second the doppler is first placed on the stomach? YES or NO???

Depends on what kind of ultrasound.. When they do the measurements thing it is moved around ALOT. They actually had to try and convince my baby to roll a little so they could get all of the measurements the needed so there was alot of hard pushing and moving around.. But on a normal ultrasound they usually just move the doppler until they can find the baby, if they find it right away then they usually don't move it much if at all. Since your so worried though you should really tell your doctor your fears and worries. Make sure that they move it some and get a good picture.. The doctor isn't going to think your worries are ridiculous.... I am sure they've heard and been asked it all before. If you have trouble remembering what you want to ask try and make a list and take it to the office with you. I had a ton of questions and could never remember to ask them when I actually go to the drs. office so I made a list.

Kim, a detailed scan or level II or III sono will move the wand around to take measurements of the fetus. They need the calculations of the skull, femur, heart chamber, and other things to determine gestational age. You don't have to move the wand around a whole lot as the baby is only about a lb or less at this point. This type of scan usually last 30-45 minutes because it is so extensive. That is why they probably had you go to the maternal/fetal center as most Docs don't do this type of sono in their offices....they don't have the experience nor machines to do detailed scans.

i agree that it is moved around more for measurments if the baby is squirmy. if there were 2 or more in there, they would need to move it around a ton

Wow! My U/S only took 10 minutes. She took a few pictures. Didn't move the thing..much. Just enought to get the picture of the head. Then asked me to come back in 4 weeks. Because my baby was not where it should be for her to get all the pictures. Thanks girls

I think they sent me there too because of my age..I had genetic counseling on Wed too. I refused all those test. Just couldn't go through with it. Praying all is healthy. Meanwhile trying to get to the bottom of this abnormal pregnancy.

No offence meant but if you really wanted to know exactly whats going on since you suspect a problem wouldn't you have the tests.. I understand the reasoning for not having them is usually because you don't want to abort a child no mater if its healthy or not.. But you don't have to abort a child if its unhealthy, it still helps you prepare for whats to come and also to find out what exactly is going on in your body that is not the norm.

Look ladies...Here's the deal. I have been bashed and treated like c___p around here. If ANY of you... Knew in you BODY, heart, mind, and soul. WIthout your mind playing tricks on you. That you were having an abnormal pregnancy other then the 5 you previously had. No matter what a doctor was saying because "HE is negligent" wouldn't you get to the bottom of it? For example..My son had a splinter in his finger. He swore up and down it was killing him. I couldn't see it. I was pulling pushing and just about tearing his poor little finger up. The splinter was the same color of his flesh. A few days later it became somewhat discolored and begin to push up. But I just couldn't see it, but it did not mean it wasn't there. It has been said to me, why don't I just accept what the doctors say? Normally I would. But under the circ_mstances of what's going on with the pregnancy the bigger I get and the more rumbling and tumbling of fetus in every area of my body. "HOW" can I accept if I feel that splinter? Do you understand?

KimMcCloud - April 18

Well these test were all for abnormalities. And I already had soooo much blood taken from this pregnancy. SO I really wasn't looking for this test to tell me "HOW MANY". She expressed that these test was for this chromosone thing..or that abnormality

Kim....you have an ultrasound this Friday right?? Just tell them...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT FOR ME! Just by how you write we can tell how concerned you are with this problem....I'm sure they'll see it in your face. Show them right where all the feelings are coming from....sure wouldn't hurt them to check. Ya never know though....sometimes you get one of those techs that really could care less....love those kind! :) Anyway....good luck...and let us know how things go on Friday...

sometimes, the "splinter" isn't there and it is the mind playing tricks. the brain is a very powerful thing and i am getting from you that no matter what you hear, you truly believe it is twins. if you don't believe what the doctors are saying why in the world would you come here for all the answers and then when they don't agree with you, get all p__sy and preachy?

kim, how many weeks did the doc say you are now? how many weeks do you think you are now? do you agree on the dates yet?
