I am 9 weeks pregnant. When I was 7 weeks along I had to go into the ER because I was spotting. The ultrasound proved fine. We saw the baby, healthy heartbeat and all. A couple days later I went back into the doctors because the bleeding still had me concerned… he said not to worry because my cervix was still closed. He ran some blood tests and came back kinda dumbfounded… he said, “Has anyone mentioned to you that you might be carrying twins?” I was like “NO!” He said well, your HCG levels are so high that I would have to guess your either carrying twins or you’re much farther along! So, he ordered another ultrasound to find out. Well, the ultrasound tech was positive she was going to find another baby, she checked thoroughly, determined to find another baby… but nothing. She even looked for a partial molar or entopic pregnancy… nothing. And I was as far along as originally thought… So the doctor just kind of scratched his head and said he didn’t know why it was so high and sent me on my way. So now I have this overwhelming thought in my head… what if I am having twins???? What are the chances of a twin hiding in two ultrasounds at 7 and 8 weeks?

I'm wondering the same thing. We had an u/s at 6wks 4days due to spotting. It only showed one, but on the way home my mom said that it was my generation to have twins in our family. I didn't even know we had twins in our family. Know I just wonder if a twin was hiding. She jokingly tells everyone we talk to that it is twins and one was hiding.

My HCG levels we're extremely high in my 5th pregnancy so they a__sumed twins but found out that she just had a very high risk of Down's Syndrom. the triple screen at 18 weeks or so will tell you more definitivly tho....good luck.
