I'm 14 weeks, and still have not had an ultrasound yet. I just got to hear the heartbeat for the first time today. It was exciting! But, I've had this feeling that there could be twins in there, is it possible to miss the heartbeat of a second baby? My uterus is so far back, I don't think moving the machine around on my tummy would have helped any, there seemed to be just one spot where the heartbeat could be picked up. Has this ever happened to anyone? I go in for an ultrasound on July 25, hopefully I'll SEE something there to let me know for sure, but I'd sure like some others' experiences! Thanks!

I don't know where you are from, but I'm in canada both my OBGYN and my GP said they won't try to listen for two heartbeats until they do the ultrasound. There is too high of a chance that they won't hear two, or they will overlap each other. So, don't be worried. Even if they did listen for two, there is a HUGE chance that they would only hear one or be able to distinguish between the two.....
Goodluck! (I'm due with twins in November and have only heard one heartbeat and don't go for an ultrasound until june 27th. Found out at emergency u/s at 7 weeks....)

Erin, I'm from Florida. But thanks for the info. I was so confused, but that really makes a difference. I'm not so worried now. I can't wait for my first u/s! And congratulations on your twins! I hope all goes well!
