I'm 9 weeks pregnant with twins and I really want to b'feed them for a long while. Any moms out there that are b'feeding past 4-5 months? My goal is to b'feed for the first year. I'm getting really discouraged and need some reassurance. thanks!

hi, congrats on your twins. I too am 9weeks3days..so we are DD buddies. I have been getting a lot of neg feedback about nursing twins. I have nursed all my singletons, so its not like this is my first pg and babies to nurse. I too would like to get some feedback on how it is to nurse twins. Do you find it better that they are on the same schedule, or on different ones? I think I can nurse both babies at once but Im wondering about the comfort and is it hard to keep them both latched on? Great topic Dani

Lcoots, looks like we're on the same page here. I also have a ds who is 15 mo. old and I b'fed him no probs. I really want to b'feed the twins. I hope someone on here has some positive advice. How are you feeling? and when did you find out you were having twins? when is your edd? mine is Oct. 18th

Lots of women bf twins successfully. I did it for a month but stopped because it took too much out of me I had never bfed before. If you're experienced and have bfed other babies you should be fine. I've seen plenty of women on other twin forums who tandem nurse their twins no problem. Lots of women use a twin nursing pillow, I've heard good things about them for making it more comfortable to feed them both.

Dani my edd is Oct 27th. Ive always thought it could be twins cause i had O pains and I never get them, so i was thinking 2 eggs released, on wed my dr did a quick scan and said yep lees your right, so i went yesterday for a v____al to confirm, both are doing well hd of 166 and 167. So Ive only really known for sure for about a week. I feel really good, just tired but im not sleepign well at night, it takes forever to go back to sleep once I am awake, but other than that Im not sick or anything! YEAH! lol I have a bobby pillow. I just wonder if it would be best to nurse them at the same time or seperately? I think seperately would take a lot out of ya, cause you would constantly ahve a baby on the b___b..lol Im going to consider supp if I need to. I just want to do whats best for them and if I cant give them enough I want to have something to fall back on... thanks freebird I will need to look into a twin nursing pillow..Never heard of them before. Thanks

My twins (both girls) are 4 now. I bf them until they were 1 with no problems. I even worked part time, too. I would pump a couple times a day at work. They took the bottle just fine at daycare and would nurse when I was home. They didn't seem to have a problem switching from one to the other. Also, my preference was to nurse them separately. I tried to do it at the same time, but it never seemed to work for me. Everytime I tried to reposition one, the other would fall out. I just could never seem to get it right. I even bought one of those twin nursing pillows. The first month or so is a lot of work to bf separately, but after they got really good at it, it didn't take much time at all. So, that's my two cents. Congratulations on all of your twins!! Twins are so much fun!

thanks lindsie. I was thinking that might be a problem for me. Im rather large b___sted and its hard for 1 baby to hang on most of the time I have to hold my b___b up. But i figured time wise it would be better to nurse them both at the same time..lol Did you keep them on the same b___st or did you rotate them like you would a single baby? I guess I should do some reseaching..lol

lindsie - March 28

I kept each baby to one side for that whole feeding. Then, the next time I would try to make sure to put them on the opposite b___b (one of my girls ate much more than the other). I say "try" because sometimes I just couldn't remember who was where last. You think it would be an easy thing to remember, but I tell ya, those first weeks are a complete blur. Also, when they got a little bigger I put them on the same feeding schedule. At first it was on demand, but that gets old really quick! Once they were more efficient at nursing it was easier to feed one and then start the next one at that same sitting. I hope this all helps! Since you all have bf'd before it will probably be a piece of cake. I had never nursed before, so I had no idea what I was doing. It all works out, though.

well lindsie i still cant remember which side a single baby had last..lol I normally just feel which side is fuller and start on that one..lol thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it, this is 1 of the things Im stressing about..lol

lcoots and dani: whats your due dates and what kind of twins are you having. i am 9w1d and as of the 8w us out doctor thinks we are probably having monochorionic diamniotic- did you guys get any warnings about possible complications?

DANI - April 2

moose, congrats on your twins. i'm due oct. 18th. i'm almost 11 weeks. not to sound ignorant but what is monochorionic diamniotic? yes, my dr considers me to be high risk. so that means more ultrasounds, blood work, etc. how about you? is your dr calling it high risk too? how are you feeling? i've been feeling nauseous and somewhat tired.

moose - April 3

thanks for the congrats- to you too, its very exciting!. you are not ignorant, i just got worried and have been reading alot- it means that there is one placenta and two amniotic sacs (one for each baby) this type means its identical twins and there is higher risk of certain things because they share their placenta. i am hoping at the next ultrasound that its really two placentas really close together- he said we should know for sure at the 10w us next week. i have been very nauseas and been throwing up- i am actually on zofran as needed and usually take it once a day. i am also extremely bloated and constipated......i cant wait to get out of the first trimester

Lcoots - April 3

My twins are DI DI, they each have their own sac and placenta, so the rish is much lower, thank goodness.. Yeah sharing a placenta can be scarey, so im glad mine dont. I am due Oct 27th. So we are all within a few weeks of each other..That's cool.

DANI - April 4

moose, i can't wait to hear the results from your ultrasound. i go in for another one next friday. i'm so excited. i wonder if they would be able to tell the s_x of the baby early on? yesterday i felt so miserable. right after lunch i started feeling nauseous and it didn't stop until 10 pm that night. i ate a popsicle and it all went away. thank god! how are you feeling?

Corona - April 4

Generally it is impossible to see the s_x of the baby until 18wks.

moose - April 6

dani- i cant wait for the us either- although i get really nervous right before because i had a previous m/c without any signs- just found out at the us that there was no heartbeat. but , i feel like ive been feeling so sick that somethings gotta be growing. although i have to say that the m/s has definitely dropped down a notch- i havent needed zofran for the last three days. but there are still plenty of notches left for it to go down! are you this sick everyday and is it as bad as you were previously or have you also noted the days getting better as you approach 12 weeks? also, i think they can tell the s_x as early as 14 weeks but it has to be a high power us with a cooperative baby, otherwise best bets are after 15-16 weeks. are you showing? i went and bought a tummy sleeve yesterday because i cant zip any of my work pants- is that weird for 9w5d? im guessing maybe not because of twins (or bloating)

Lcoots - April 6

Moose Ive been showing since 4weeks.In maternity clothes about 6 weeks..lol But this is my 6th pg. I agree they can tell around 16weeks, but sometimes boys and girls still look the same then. I like getting an u/s around 18-20 cause then theres usually no doubt. I havent been sick at all..Just a lot of headaches and not sleepign at night, which is much better than puking all the time..lol So I cant say that mines getting better or not since Ive not had it bad at all. I get queasy sometimes if i go to long without eating but normally im pretty good. I dont go to the dr till April 16th, Im not sure what they are going to do then. I have been checking my blood sugars 4 times a day, since I had GD last time and was on insulin. But they've been really good so Im hopign I wont have to do it all the time till I get further along. I'm anxious to discuss things with my dr. We are planning a FL trip in July when I will be 23 weeks and I need to see what she thinks about me driving 12 hrs there and back..lol I NEED to go. Cause its something I look forward to all yr..lol If we need to go in June instead I will make new reservations..lol I cant beleive I will be 11 weeks tomorrow..whoohoo
