Carrying And Raising Twins

His Queen - February 21

Hello Ladies, I have Identical twin boys who just turned 5 last month, They were our OOps! babys, and were the best surprise we could have ever recieved. Regarding the sleeping issue, in the hospital they put them in the same ba__sinet so when I got home they slept in the same crib up untill 1 year untill they wouldn't fit anymore. I tried to separate them numerous time but they wouldn't sleep without each other so we let them sleep together for another year on an air matress in our room and then finally at 3 years old got them twin beds. They started out with the excitment of sleeping in their own big boy beds but that didn't last before they started sneaking into each others beds, Even now at 5 years old they hop into each others bed at night, so I guess it's really up to them, Lol.. My boys are older but I have been where you are now, so if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

His Queen, thanks so much for the sleeping advice. We just put the 2nd crib together today but of course don't really know if we'll use it. I've got 2 weeks left until my scheduled c-section and I'm so ready to have these boys. I'm scared but just ready at this point.

I'm new to the site, but I'm a first-time mom of twin boys who arrived 12/1/08 at 37 weeks weighing 4.9lb and 5.3lbs. Twins runs in my family in a big way. I think we have 5 sets at last count and 1 set on my husband's side. My boys are now almost 4 months old and have just started teething. I'm so excited to start solid foods soon. :D

Hi- I am 29 years old and 7 weeks pregnant, and just found out I am having twins. (naturally, and NO twins in either of our families) I went for an appointment at 4 weeks, and they saw I was pregnant but didn't see anything on the ultrasound, so checked my hormone level ( it was at 1000) and said it was fine. (I'm now told that it was HIGH for 4 weeks) Told me to come back for a recheck in 2 weeks. Two weeks later, and lo and behold-two babies with heartbeats! I'd also be due around November 15th. This is my fourth pregnancy, I have two older girls who live with dad (10 and 8) and a 5 year old girl with my current husband. Needless to say, I'm kind of freaking out! Though, weirdly enough, I did dream I was having twins. Very surreal. Anyway, I'm glad to have found this place, just googling stuff has filled my head with all the possible complications, and I think I am making myself crazy!

pando-congratulations!!! i'm sure you're anxious and even a little scared, but it'll be fine. my boys are actually not that hard. granted, i've never had a single, so i have nothing to compare to, but they're not as hard to take care of as everyone would have you think. yes, you'll be tired, yes you'll constantly forget who you fed last or changed last, etc, but wow. it's so worth it. yes, multiple pregnancies are high risk, but i had not complications with mine. just try to stay positive. p.s. my uncle has 4 children total, 2 of which are boy/girl twins. he said the twins were WAAAAAAY easier to take care of than his singles. he said they often entertain and comfort eachother. :P so that's something to look forward to. :) good luck.

Thank you for the encouragement funnygal84. I know once I have them, I will probably laugh at how much I have worried. It's hard not to, though.

i can't even explain what a worrier i was. i read anything i could get my hands on about birth and raising twins. terrifying stuff. my best piece of advice is don't let the naysayers get to you and try to keep your patience with commenters. i'll warn you now, when you have twins, it's like you're a walking circus. everyone wants to take a look and ask a dozen questions and give you advice. the worst is when you tell them you're having twins and they say "wow i feel sorry for you" or "better you than me" can you believe that people actually say these things??? there's an article somewhere with the funniest comments we MOMS (mothers of multiples) get. i'll have to track it down if you haven't read it yet. oh. and i highly suggest investing in a prenatal cradle. it's a sort of support belt for your ever-expanding stomach. it was a lifesaver in the third trimester for me. it's a little pricey, but worth every penny...especially if you plan to ever grocery shop at any point during the final stage of your pregnancy. :)

I have been Googling non-stop since I found out! And all it's done is made me paranoid that one is going to "vanish" or have twin to twin transfusion or they'll be so premature or... ack! It never ends! At some point I decided to just stick to forums and positive articles about preparing. Most people seem to have had good experiences, despite all the fear spreading going on about how much more high risk the pregnancy/birth is- and I have no reason to convince myself that everything isn't going to go perfectly for us too. People ask such inappropriate things when you have just ONE child, I can't imagine what it's going to be like with the two of them. Ill have to make a list of witty comebacks in advance! ;) I will definitely check out the prenatal cradle. I got HUGE with my single's- and I'm already showing this time around. (I'd convinced myself it was because this is my 4th pregnancy, but apparently that's not the cause. At least when people make the inappropriate comments about how I'm so big I must be having twins this time, I can tell them that I am in fact!! ;)

I googled non-stop during my pregnancy and was so worried about "vanishing twin syndrome" and everything else imaginable. I think it's pretty common to worry about these things. In my case my pregnancy went very well with just 2 weeks of bed rest and I carried my boys to "term" and had two very healthy big boys at 38 weeks last Monday. One was 8lbs 1 oz, the other 7lbs 11oz. I wish I had know about the prenatal cradle, I was miserable the last month! Best of luck with your pregnancy pando and let us know if any questions. I'm by no means an expert but would be happy to share with you what I can.

Hi all - I went for my ultrasound yesterday and found out I am pregnant with boy/girl twins. I will be 18 weeks tomorrow due Sept 5. FunnyGal - I too know what its like to hear them comments. If I hear one more person say better you than me I'm gonna flip. I actually got an "ohh NO" yesterday, can you believe it..then he went on to tell me how hard it was to have two within two years never mind twins. I would hate to be his wife! I will have to keep the prenatal cradle in mind. I already feel huge, my stomach growls just below my rib cage and i'm noticing a difference walking up stairs, but hey most of the morning sickness is over. The appet_te is insane though!
