Left Out In Cold

I am now 10 weeks pregnant. Kind of upset how my first doc visit went 5 weeks ago. That is when I had a va___al u/s and found out I had two sacs with two heartbeats. However, the doc did not take us back into his office to discuss how this would be different from a singleton preg. He simply said come back on May 22nd. So my questions are, how far along will I be to not worry about the Vanishing Twin Syndrome anymore, when can I tell the s_xes and when would my due date be. Before the ultasound, and finding out there were twins, he gave me a due date of December 9th. I'm sure of only being 5'2" and 125 lbs, that ain't gonna happen. Please help, I know I only have a week to go for my next appt, but the anxiety is killing me.

You never know. I am your exact height and weight, and carried a 10 lb baby 2 weeks past my due date, and delivered her naturally. Most multiple pregnancies are delivered an average of 3-4 weeks before full term. Don't be discouraged by your size. It may cause more discomfort for you, such as difficulty breathing and eating a full meal towards the end, but being pet_te doesn't mean that you can't carry or deliver a baby (or babies) as well as a woman who is larger. In fact, my mom-in-law is 5'11'' and could not deliver my husband (another 10-pounder) v____ally because he was too large for her. The due date will be the same, although you can expect to deliver a little earlier, and as for determining the s_xes, it is the same as with a sigleton: about 15 weeks at the earliest, but for a more accurate result, 18 weeks.

Your due date remains the same no matter how many babies you have. You'll probably deliver a little early. I think the average twins go around 36-38 weeks. Your worries about Vanishing Twin Syndrome should be alleviated in the 2nd trimester. But of course, you're a mom now, you'll always worry! Please write down any questions you have and make sure to ask your doctor. If your doctor isn't helpful, find one who is. Good luck and Congratulations!

normally w/twins you do have the possibility of going full term so dont worry. . Like w/a singleton pregnancy, just take care of yourself and listen to your body.

wow flower.momma, that would be the equivalent of two babies! :) yes, i could understand the discomfort, as only being two months, i already can't eat a whole meal, i have to eat many small meals, it feels like it just don't fit. thanks for the input.

Thanks yetanother...i am really glad to know my due date remains the same. I guess, just like with a singleton, the baby will come when their ready, huh? so yetanother...does this mean this is your second time round w/triplets?

thanks tripletmom, i'm glad to know my size doesn't matter. i really thought that it would have been a factor. another questions guys, what are the odds of having boy/girl, girl/girl, boy/boy? or is it just like everything else, let nature take it's course?

j3jones and pinkrox87 how far along were you when you had you v____al ultrasound and they found your twins. i have symptoms much sooner and worse than with my first. i never had a v____al scan with her....but i bleed heavily about 8 weeks in and the docotr thought it may have been a miscarriage of one twin but since they had never done a prior scan they had no idea weather that was it. so i am super worried this time.

pinkrox87 - May 15

i was 6.5 weeks when they found mine. did they do any scans when u were bleeding to see if everything was ok?

pinkrox87 - May 15

oh and how far are u now?

pinkrox87 - May 15

ok i am confusing myself as i am re-reading your post... forgive me... so was the bleeding heavily at 8 weeks from ur first pregnancy or this one? im sorry im just confusing myself...lol. :)

I had an u/s at 6 weeks, one at 8 weeks and then didn't have another till 14 weeks. My next is not until 21 weeks. My OB said that they don't really start monitoring you more frequently till a little later on (as long as you're not having any complications) A good book to read about multiple pregnancy is 'When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads' by Barbara Luke. it has lots of good info about how you should take care of yourself and how your pregnancy will be different than a single preg.

hey pinkrox87...well sounds like we are in the same boat, he gave me a due date of December 9th. he he. luckily this is my second pregnancy, my son is 8 now, so it feels like i'm starting all over again, and now w/2!

hello sarahbaby, they measured me at 5 weeks and one day when they did the ultrasound. i'm sorry things are turning out like that, wonder why they didn't do a scan?? mother's are strong and there is a reason for it, so hang in there and me know what happens at your next appt.

thanks for the advise freebird, i was wondering where i could get a good resource for this issue. the internet doesn't seem to be pulling up good sites for me. i'm glad i found this one!

Hello All, I just read all your messages and I am 21 weeks pregnant with twin boys. At 10 weeks I had some bleeding and they did an ultrasound and that is when they found 2 babies. The doctor saw me right afterwards and met with us and explained how my pregnancy would be monitored. If you don't feel comfortable with your doctor, I would switch, esp. if this is your first pregnancy. This is my first pregnancy and I think I would have been so upset if they didn't talk to me afterwards. I found out at 17 weeks that they were boys. I had a level 2 ultrasound to make sure their weren't any abnormalities. Now I have an ultrasound at least every 4 weeks. I just had one on the 17th. They will be measuring my cervix every 3 to 4 weeks until I reach 32 weeks. My doctor informed me that the average twin pregnancy is 34 to 36 weeks, but some people go full term. Regarding the vanishing twin syndrome, once you hit the 12 week mark, your chances of losing one are very slim. I am also only 5'2" and started at 135 pounds, I gained about 25 pounds so far and feel pretty good. Although I know the 3rd trimester is going to be the hardest. I wish all of you lots of luck!
