Baby And Cats

Ok, so i have two cats at home. My baby is due august and i'm a bit worried as to what to expect! My husbands cat a bit of a mean cat, we know for sure he doesn't like kids, he hisses at them and could hide for days when there's any around. The other cat seems to be pretty friendly, but i'm still worried because i'm afraid the cats might freak out and attack the little one. the house is not so big, so i don't have much room to separate them. should i try and make them get used to baby things? like lotions, baby powder or something. I would appreciate if any of you could share their experience! Thanks :)

I have heard that with dogs some people use a doll and treat it like a baby to get the dogs used to it (as much as they can). It may work with cats, I am not sure.

Don't worry your cats won't "attack" your baby. Maybe a cat will be provoked by a toddler who pulls its tail, but then that is a lesson learned. Just take it as it comes. But good idea on trying to make them used to the baby things, but I think it will be a different show when the baby is there, making noise and has a smell of its own. Good luck!

well, the things is, the cats don't get along! so there's no way i can keep them in the same room. my cat's been sleeping with us in our room for the last 2 years. husbands cat constantly attacks her! he chases her around the house! that's the problem! as far as the kids, anytime we have guests and kids, the mean cat hides under the bed and does not come out for days.

Hi there....it will all be ok. I have 3 cats (and 2 dont get along) and we have a 10mth old and i am now pregnant again! Before the first baby came, my cats were my babies and were used to sleeping with me. I just made sure they got used to the baby furniture (aluminum foil is good for deterrant say in cot and crib so they learn not to jump in there as they wont like it..keep foil in there a few mths up to birth). Once the baby came, altho my cats HATE children, they actually got concerned when he cried and came and licked his hands (where any other kid they would have run a mile!). Just make sure you always allocate them time each day for cuddles (i make nighttime when bubs asleep). They will learn to love the baby as they do you guys - or else they learn to accept it . The only time id worry about your cats is in playmode if your baby accidentally falls/crawls/steps on the cat. I think youll be fine :) Congrats !!

thank you Chris! yeah, i think i'm willing to give my cats a chance before i give them away. Foil, who would think about that? :) Your story definitely makes me feel better about the cat situation. Maybe i'll get to keep all my babies with me :)
