I'm in Canada (Ontario more specifically) and am wondering if you can apply for unemployment while you're off on mat leave? Has anyone done this? What is the percentage of your regular pay? Any help would be appreciated.

Absolutely. EI in Canada will pay you 55% of your salary, up to about 1500/monthly. Some complanies 'top you up' to a % of your salary, for so long or perhaps teh whole year. Mine toppee me up to 90% of salary for 6 months, which meand I got 1500 from EI + money from my old employer. It is quite easy to apply. You can go online to the apply (google search employment income in canada). Good luck!

I have been told that you also get some explaination of policies if you take a childbirth cla__s-although I don't know how extensive the info is. I've also heard that you can apply online as well, not sure how early, but remember that there will most likely be a delay in getting payments as the process usually takes a few weeks to get set up.

I'm in Quebec, if you dont have a mat leave program at work that would pay you bout 80% of your normal sal. you can collect EI. all over Canada we pay into it!! it come right off our pays, so you can get it, but it wont be as much as 80% i beleive its 55-60% gl=)
